We own a 2009 Jayco Featherlite 226 and just recently bought a slightly used 2014 Jayco Eagle Touring Edition 28.5RKDS. New to the 5th wheel game so will probably have lots of questions. We plan to pick up the 5th wheel in Las Vegas around first of the year and heading for Texas for a few months. Trailer has been sitting for a few years. What should I look for before I drags it 2k miles? I already have Timken bearings on order.

Congrats and Welcome to the group! Bearings are a great start. I would also check tire age. It's is likely that unless they have been replaced they have aged out.

First, I assume your TV will accommodate the associated loaded weights of the Eagle 28.5RKDS (10,500lb GVWR).

Bearings, brakes, tires (as mentioned), and I would also check the leaf springs and shackles for signs of wear/damage. Since the FW has been sitting for a few years it may be wise to inspect all wall/roof joints, seams, vents, skylights, etc., for caulk/seal integrity.

When purchasing a 'used' RV I refer folks to a "new RV" PDI (link below) and inspect appropriate items off the PDI list....., especially since you plan on using the FW right away.

Thanks for your response. Good point on the tires. The PO just had them replaced last year then put the unit in covered storage. I will double check the date code when we go back first of the year. It was on my list to check but oh well…. I call it Half-timers

Thanks for the reply. Just upgraded our TV to a 2012 F250 with 6.7. I’ve installed the compressor and have a set of Firestone airbags in the box ready to go. The PO went up on the roof to check and reseal a few areas. The unit is in covered storage so that helps. I think I’m going to have bearings replaced at Camping World and when I do I’ll ask them to do a once over. I like to do my own work but it’s too far away for that at the moment.

Greetings all from Michigan,

We are the proud owners of a new 2021 Pinnacle 36 SSWS this past March.

Spent the summer season with it park on our seasonal lot in Ludington Mi.

Now it’s tucked away in storage ready for 2023 season.
