New to RV

Hello! We are first time RV owners with an 11 month old and a dog. We just recently purchased a 2022 Jayco Jay Flight SLX 224BH.

We don't any experience with owning our own RV but we are excited to learn.

We welcome all advice from anyone!

Thanks!

Best advice is just enjoy yourself. Take it slow, camp nearby for a weekend a couple of times before heading out. Get used to driving, setting up, pulling out. Don't spend a lot of gadgets right away. Find out what you really need and don't burden yourself with things you "might" need. Enjoy the little one.

Our first major camping experience was Yellowstone trip after one weekend trip. We were not prepared for the weather and camping in a popup. A 9 month old did not care where he was as long as he was with us and yours will too!

Don't be afraid to ask questions here and with fellow campers. Almost always someone will volunteer to help you fix almost any problem or give great advice (mostly LOL).

No advice or wisdom to offer, but welcome! We are new travel trailer owners as well, and looking at your location my sense is you may have stumbled on the same sale we did.

Lots of outstanding spots to spend a weekend or longer in Alabama. Enjoy.

Welcome to the forum from another dog owner. This forum is a great place to learn. Great people, excellent knowledge and Moderators who are second to none. A great place to find areas where your dog is welcome is to search for "dog friendly."

Welcome.

Agree with camping nearby a few times. Get a packing list to check off for each trip; make up your own or I'm sure you could find one online. Drive a little slower and just enjoy it. The journey is part of the trip and is safer as well. Don't pay a whole lot of attention the weather forecast because we have had great weekends when it was supposed to rain all weekend and we have had not so great weekends with sunny forecast. At 5 p.m., walk through the campground and enjoy waving at others. My favorite part of the day.

Welcome from Ohio!

Hitch up the trailer and go to a large empty parking lot close by and practice backing and turning. Go slow, take your time, get a feel for the different turning radius and how the trailer responds to your tow vehicle. Download a list of trailer setup and take down procedures for the inside and out and follow them in order. Please get towing mirrors or extenders for your vehicle, they help, they are essential. Agree with Roger R, don't get all the various gadgets at once, just the basics (level blocks, WDH, hose, water filter, wheel chocks, surge protector, sewer hose, flashlight, modest tool kit). Get the gadgets when you understand the need and benefit of having. Enjoy the road!

New owner

Hi I’m not really new to jayco but have just purchased a new replacement to my jayco. My new one is 2022 Jayco Eagle 184. I used to have BASIC 2020 jay flight and so many things went wrong so we traded in and now have this new one. I’m familiar with some things of rv maintenance but I don’t want to taint this new one by skimping on things u coulda done better…especially with everything is digital and electronic now. I’ve read to lubricate the auto leveling jacks and the grey and black water lever shafts. I also already have the yellow leveling blacks, tire chop and vent bug covers. So I’m in process of getting lube and slide out cover.. Is there anything else that I should be doing so that can pro long the life of this one better than the old one?

New to RV

I’ve been Rving for 40 years. Most important things is are to relax, have fun, and don’t worry about things going wrong. Just about any problem can be remedied quickly.
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

😁

Thank u for ur kind words. As a previous rv owner that had many problems i’d have to say it’s more than that. We had our jayco flight for 2 months when things started going wrong with it and it took 2 years for them to do anything about it which is when and why we purchased the jayco eagle recently. If I can do anything to prevent the same horrible couple of years I had with a brand new rv then i’d like To try to stay on top of them.
