You kids have it so easy now days.
When we needed batteries we made them with a glass jar, a zinc cathode, a carbon anode a porous divider and I forget what the liquid was.

Probably distilled water. I made my first radio out of a toilet paper roll, copper wire, a small piece of crystal called a "cats whisker". Listened to the Russian Sputnik go Beep Beep when it orbited around the earth and local radio stations.

As a child I would offer my seat to a elderly person.

I walked with my first girlfriend ( I was 13or14 ) past my grandfather’s house ( my mom’s dad ) and she was walking on the street side. I saw my Grandfather a couple a days later and he asked me who was the whore i was with. He went on to explain that a man never let’s a lady walk on his outside unless he was trying to sell her! I have never let one of the lady’s in my family walk on my outside. Grandpa was an old school Bohunk from Czechoslovakia. I think this story make me feel kind’a old. Next time you walk down a sidewalk look who’s walking on the outside!

I remember when the lone ranger got bit on the butt by a rattlesnake. He told Tonto to ride to town to see what the doctor had recommended. Tonto rode to town, found the doctor who told him to make an x-cut to the wound and suck out the poison. Tonto rode back to the ranger and told him he had talked to the doctor. The ranger asked what he said. Tonto said the doctor said "You're going to die."

Our father built our first TV (B&W) from a Heathkit. It had no cabinet or knobs. We had two channels that we changed with a pair of pliers. It had a tendency to roll and we had to reach in the back avoiding the high voltage section to adjust it. That was about 1954.

I just told my wife, "It is Chamber of Commerce Weather today." She looked at me weird and said, "What the h3ll does that mean?"
So I took a poll of our employees, and not a single person has heard that term before. All of the above mentioned are at least 5 years younger than me. I'll bet none of them have ever heard of Marcia Yokey before either.

I'm 66 and I've never heard of that or Marcia either.
Had to Google her up.

Quite a lady.
