Bike Helmet Saved My Granddaughter's Life Yesterday

This is what my granddaughter’s helmet looked like after her bike accident on way to school yesterday. It was cracked in two places (lower arrows), and a large scrape showing where helmet contacted the ground as she did a somersault over the handlebars (upper arrow). The doctor said her helmet as well as *wearing it correctly* saved her life yesterday! She is ok. Sore nose, swollen black eye, scrapes/bruises, and sprained wrist...BUT... no head injury thank God! She is going to be ok

When California passed the mandatory bike helmet requirement for kids I hated it. I thought it was another rule that the state had no business legislating.

Now, as a father of 3, I am huge proponent of bike helmets.

I am very happy your grand daughter is OK. What a scary thing, lots of bikes around with school starting back up this week.

Wow. Thank goodness for the helmet and someone making sure she wore it. Very glad she will be OK.

I am a big fan of lids when on all recreational vehicles. A sane person can't make much of a case against their effectiveness. Many years in EMS taught me a few lessons.

I am VERY happy for you and yours.

I would never wear a helmet as a kid. Funny how we get smarter over time...and i have the scars to prove it...lol. Glad she is doing well.

Glad to hear it's only bumps and bruises. She's a lucky young girl.

It is a good thing that someone taught her well in helmet use. I am glad she is ok.

The key words here "wearing it properly" way too many kids push it way back on their heads to "look cool" Glad that some bruising and scrapes is all she got...
