Hwy. Help

I am traveling Salt Lake City to end up in Maine and the south along the East Coast. Please help with the best route to take. I am driving a 2018 31P Alante towing a Wrangler. Which is the easiest route 80 or 90 going west to east. We plan on coming back the 10. Thank you for your input.

80 and 90 isn't a bad route, at least it wasn't a few years back, but you have to remember that I-80 is the Ohio Turnpike for a good portion of the state and I-90 is also part of the New York Turnpike.

The New York Turnpike doesn't exist. You are referring to the New York Thruway, that avenue of extortion that will sap your bankbook in return for miles of monotony. No way would I ever take an RV on that. So 90 is out.

Take 80 from PA east and get on 287 or 81 to 84. Then hit 90 where it is called the Mass Turnpike. then to 495 aned then 95 to Maine. Your wallet will thank you.

He mentioned 80/90 and that was why I stated it was a toll (turnpike or what ever they call it). It's been a few years since I've even been on it and I don't remember what the cost was.

I've driven both I-80 & I-90 through the Midwest (Chicago through Wyoming). Both routes are fine. I like I-90 better, only because the the scenario changes more often and there are more things to stop and look at. I-80 especially through Kanas is extremely boring.

I traveled the NYS Thruway for too long and it is nap time! Its not combined with 80 east of Cleveland. 80 is far more scenic east of Cleveland. here is the breakdown of the $60 cost for a two axle RV

I-80 doesn't go through Kansas.

Where does I-80 pass through Kansas? Nebraska maybe but not Kansas and I hear boring, and Kansas often but I lived there 12 years, married my wife who is from there and still owns the ranch/farm there and will tell you that the flat/boring comments are made by those who have never been there and have no clue. Just saying, so back to where is I-80 in Kansas?

No offense, but I think I-70 through Kansas and I-80 through Nebraska are both somewhat boring. My first trip pulling a TT across Kansas was in 1984.

Yeah - when.
If you're thinking now/soon - I'd be staying as far south as I could go. We do I-80 and I-70 from here to SLC all of the time. The nice thing about I-80 is that it's been resurfaced in Wyoming.

I-70 hasn't had as much care but I find it much less windy and less white knuckle.
I-80 is flatter, less mountains.

Of course this is just between Colorado and Utah - you've got a lot more of the USA to traverse.

See I-80 is so boring I errored on my states. I avoid I-80 as the road is so straight you can put one of those anti theft bars on the steering wheel set the cruise control and take a nap. In reality if I remember correctly about every 10 miles they shift the road a bit to help keep drivers from falling asleep. As I recall I-70 is about the same.

I70 is not all of Kansas. Thinking that is narrow minded. Sorry but…

Are we serious here? Leaving SLC for the east coast and taking a detour to I90 must be an expensive detour for any of us... Unless there is something you want to see/visit along the I-90 route "or" you are wanting to kill time in the summer

Living in SLC for 20 years gives me a lot of experience in the difference between I-80 and I70 too... 80 is our choice unless the weather is forcing us south into the tornado zone... but that choice is more dependent on where on the Atlantic Coast you are heading to...

Look at my state map. We have left Maine for Salt Lake City a couple of times though usually we go farther North.
Visiting the East Coast does not have to be expensive if you stay away from DC and NYC. Gads its been twenty years since I have been to either.

the only tolls we pay are the Newburgh Beacon Bridge which is not expensive and for 12 miles along the Mass Tpk. We favor i 70 as Chicago is a nightmare for us.

We aren't used to traffic or really multilane highways. Yes we have I 95 and the part we travel and the time we travel is traffic free. Open tolling in Maine has helped alot ( that is until some bozo has an accident on the Maine-NH bridge; often involves a truck)

The relevant item is always the weather when YOUR journey is scheduled
It pays to be flexible and understand your route options and use those options
We traveled Texas in 21 in Feb and no one expected an ice storm
We should have gone north off 10
but nooo. we wanted to sit in a jam for hours when the highway was jammed with overturned trucks
We had no issues but others clearly did
