I'm sorry for your loss.

My neighbors just brought home a 2021 Jayco Jay Flight TT yesterday, I’m not sure of the model. They had it all set up in their driveway. Tuesday was a very nice day, sunny, temps at about 55 degrees F. They left their awning out for the evening. Unfortunately, 4 inches of heavy wet snow fell overnight. Yes, you guessed it, the awning was destroyed. They had it for less than 8 hours and already a major catastrophe.

They’ll laugh about it later, much later, I hope.

That's a major bummer. You guys got a lot more than we did. I shoveled maybe an inch off the deck this morning, and although it snowed in short bursts all day, it didn't accumulate. Now it's just darn cold. It sure didn't take me long to get used to the warm temps lately.

And that’s why you join a forum like this one way before you make such a large purchase on something you know absolutely nothing about.

Bigger question is, did they learn anything from this?

My bet, probably not. Next time they'll leave it out and the wind will throw it on the roof. Lol!

awnings are fragile. keeping an eye on the weather forecasts help. i always retract awning when leaving, you never know what will happen.

That’s sucks. I can recall the dreaded feeling I had one year in Colorado. We were 30 mins away from the trailer and I remembered I left the awning out as the weather started to turn. I got lucky. Now it’s in unless I can have eyes on it.

Once on a camping trip I played a 9 hole round of golf. Beautiful morning, not a cloud in the sky. As I started to drive off, I said my brother "I'd better bring in the awning". His reply was that we're only be gone in a couple of hours. His Accu-Weather app showed no storms in the forecast.

At the "Nineteenth Hole", we were enjoying a few barley pops when all of a sudden a thunderstorm popped up with heavy winds. I'm sure my awning would have been destroyed if I had left it out.

sLuckily, we learned this early in our camping lives. We were camped at Fort Canby State Park on the Washington Coast. The curbside of our rig was parked facing away from the Pacific and our awning was out. As we were leaving for the day, SWMBO noticed the rig across the road's awning (facing the ocean) was flapping pretty good in the wind. She suggested we roll up our awning.

Glad we did cuz when we returned, across the road neighbor's awning was tatered and mostly laying on his roof. No one was in their rig when we left, and no way was I going to touch another's rig without permission.
