"Why did I wait so long???"

I said that after getting a new hip. What a difference it made! Why, on earth, did I wait so long, put up with so much pain?

Whelp - it happened again. This time I gots me a New Bionic Man Steve Austin style eye. I had my right eye's cataract removed Wednesday morning.

OMG - that wall is WHITE, not Khaki!
OMG - that lawn is green, not olive.
OMG - that door is purple! Too purple!!!

What's amazing is closing the new eye and looking thru the left, the one left with a cataract. The difference is stunning, mind blowing. I had no idea I had been looking at life thru a hazy, tan "shower curtain."

Procedure was 1000% painless. Zero, zip, nada. I've been more troubled getting a Big Gulp at 7-11, than getting an eye fixed.

If you're a candidate for cataract surgery and you haven't done it, I'd urge you to join the club and say "Why did I wait so long?"

That is so good to hear. I guess it is human nature to put things off in the first place.

Speaking of hips, my father has needed a replacement for over two years. He would rather have pain and difficulty walking than have the surgery. Can't talk to him about it either.

Isn’t it amazing! My wife and I had it done in 2018 and I couldn’t believe the difference. My eyes were 20/200 with very thick lenses. Now I just need a slight correction for reading. Seeing true colors and driving at night is what I notice the most.

If you are a candidate for this surgery, get it done. It will improve your life.

My dad just had both eyes done this summer!

Trying to convince him to get the other hip done. He keeps saying his mobility issue is because his back hurts. But the Docs keep saying the back hurts because of the hip!

I had my lens implants done to correct for cataracts 6 months apart over 15 years ago and had the same "Hooray" moment.

As one who had both knees replaced over 10 years ago and cataract surgery with Torx lenses on both eyes within the last 5 years, I must agree with pconroy.

Don't put it off, just get it done! I have worn glasses since I was eight years old with acute asigmatism. The Torx lenses get rid of that but now I wear readers to see upclose. Given the choice over again, I would have saved the $2500.00 and continued to wear the bifocals. Why? Because now, I wear a necklace with the readers hanging off the end so I don't lose them.

One last bit of advice: DO THE PHYSICAL THERAPY AFTER ANY REPLACEMENT SURGERY!!

Yes, it may hurt but that's so it will get better. The only people I have heard say that the replacement didn't help, were the ones I asked if they did the PT and they almost all said no!

This is so true! When I went in for my hip, I joked to the Doc that I wanted a Punch Card; I'd be back for both knees too. He looked at the X-Rays and said "I'll make you a bet that it's one-and-done for you, after the hip."

No way! My knees were in almost as much pain as my hip.
He was right - the new hip fixed the knee pain almost overnight.

I've worn glasses since I was 8 too, my hip was busted up playing baseball as a kid. I told my ophthalmologist today "If you've got anything else in there that'll turn back the clock 30 years, I want to know about it!!!"

I have heard the exact same response from anyone who has ever had it done! Glad it worked out so well for you...

Good to hear of it! I've heard the same thing several times, too; "Why did I wait so long?"

I am very happy for you Patrick! I tend to procrastinate on so many things, I waited too long for my last shoulder surgery and ended up tearing a lot of tendons that are now held in place with ceramic screws (supposed to be better than titanium but...). In any case, I am happy that you didn't keep putting it off forever. ~CA
