Winter Olympics

So who's watching? My favorite sport is on right now....Curling. What other sport could you be possibly that out of shape and win a gold medal.

You probably could put a big fat guy in a bobsled and give him a push.

I was watching the short track speed skating qualifiers earlier today. They make it look so easy.

I hope they have some good coverage tomorrow since we are getting a ton of snow the next few days and I have no reason to go out in it until its all cleared.

I think that you can also find a good selection of coverage online if you prefer to watch it that way.

I just got an email from Xfinity saying they have 50 channels of coverage, some are on demand so I can watch from the start of an event at anytime.

Pretty disgusted by the 8-11:30 NBC coverage tonight. Long stretches of commercials with sporadic moments of sports.

I like the curling too. Mostly because it drives my wife bananas.
But my favorite are the Alpine Skiing (Downhill), Bobsled and luge. I guess I like things that go fast.

No more for me.
They forced Sterling out.
I started rooting for Kenseth.

They forced retirement on him.

No more.
No sports.
Hardly any tv at all.

Reminds me of their NASCAR coverage.....one lap and 15 min of commercials.

As soon as they start beating their wives and girlfriends, taking drugs, betting on their teams, shooting themselves in the leg or even carrying a weapon illegally, taking a stand on something they know nothing about, being hypocritical, getting paid not for their performance but becasue of who they are, being forced by a contract from the league to help communities and act like thugs I'll probably stop watching it to

Watching some of the downhill practice last night. Those guys are hitting nearly 80 mph and flying 50 meters off of some of those jumps. Quite impressive.

I love curling also and it also drives my wife crazy. She does not appreciate the strategy behind the sport.

I am glad NBC has more channels to watch this year. I like figure skating to a point, but I think they always over do the coverage.

Ski jumping is also on the top of my list.

That's funny we were just talkin about all the old t.v. shows at work. Mannix was one we forgot so I'll have to bring that one up today as another of the classics back in that day

X2 All broadcast stations but the Networks are the worst. They pay large fortunes for the broadcast rights to things like the Olympics and then think they can recoup that cash with non stop commercials. They usually start out with an initial opening segment largely telling us how amazing the upcoming coverage was going to be, then the commercial deluge starts. Soon the actual participation is about 50/50 with the rest commercials and the talking heads reviewing what has been seen. Guess they think since it has been so long since the activity was shown that we probably have forgotten or simply lost interest.

I don't watch anything like this LIVE. Set the DVR and let it run for maybe an hour and then start at the beginning. Unfortunately you can catch up that hour in as little as 20 minutes as you skip thru the commercials and meaningless jibber jabber by the talking heads. Better to set the DVR and watch last nites coverage tomorrow while the next round is broadcast. We do the same with the regular series that we watch through the year.

The balance of content to commercials has been pushed beyond the patience of the viewers and IMHO has backfired on the networks. Instead of watching a few of the commercials in between bathroom breaks and getting a snack, more and more people are doing what I do and skip them all I couldn't rate the Superbowl commercials because I didn't see any of them until they were highlighted on the News shows the following morning.

For what ever demented reason, I too have watched coverage of the Curling trials in recent weeks. Think it may be because when you get past the slow routine of the sport, I actually start to get the strategy and try to second guess the next move. Use the same DVR stratigy as mentoned above but since there is not much demand for advertiser's for Curling the breaks are shorter.

When beer drinking and power-napping become sports, I'll watch. Or nap. Or drink. Or both. I don't know.

I pretty sure that at least 2 of those are included in Curling. As I said before, I still have Olympic hopes.
