Any chance that would be an issue with the hot water?
From Amazon ... nylon threaded adapter ...

Or Tractor supply will have the nylon tank thread nipple to the braided line used for a toilet cold water connection. Then just screw on a shutoff valve. Did this on 4trailers now. All with atwood aluminum tanks. The suburban hw tank is steel and reqires the anode rod as a sacrifice metal to be eaten away by the heated water that can be acidic to the steel tank. It gets eaten away instead of the inside of the tank. Atwood aluminum tanks don't need it.

I found it helpful to use the small flush tube to get all the crud flushed out from the tank. It's amazing at just the amount of "mud" that you will accumulate over a summer of camping.

A valve may allow adequate water flow, I've not tried one.

It will work fine that way. They don't recommend metal in that hole, though many do and never look back. My only fear was having it corrode to the point that it damages the tank. No matter what you use it's a good practice to remove it and flush the large crud out from time to time. This will also keep the corrosion on those threads in check, hopefully.

I was “sold” the aftermarket quick drain plug thinking it was a great idea. The thing rusted to oblivion in one summer. It has to be the metal in the plug not getting along with the tank. I tossed it and am back to the nylon plug.

My guess was that he got the Camco brass one mentioned above. Mixing the aluminum and brass was probably the issue.

I couldn't get the CPVC parts from my local Depot, so I ordered nylon nipples from Amazon, and when it gets here, then will use the braided water line and valve from Depot.

CPVC nipples are not easy to find. I got one at Columbia pipe distributor. Counter guy asked what I needed it for so I told him and said they were hard to find. He agreed and said, "Go ahead and take it, it's only a dollar anyway" and refused my money. Need pipe for anything? Go to Columbia Pipe!

Ace hardware by us all carry them. Used extensively for sprinkler systems out here, poly has a tendency to fail .

Ace, Home Depot, Menard's, others all carry some CPVC but not 1/2 close threaded nipples. Most CPVC is gued.

BTW, Marine, thanks for your service! I served four years on the Wood County, an LST out of Little Creek. We gave 2nd battalion combat engineers and their amtracs out of Camp Lejeune some nice rides around N.C. and to the med and back. : )

Ace carries them because many underground sprinkler systems are PVC. CPVC whike the thread is the same is not size compatible with PVC. CPVC. PEX and COPPER are all the same exterior dimensions. They do not carry threaded CPVC fittings.
Took a ride on a floating cork from Okiniwa, made a landing at the DMZ 52 years ago...lol...was an intetesting trip.

I actually found nylon 1/2" nipples on Amazon. They're not CPVC, but I figured if the original drain plug was nylon, then hopefully a nylon nipple will work too.

I installed it today, let's see if it holds.

RetiredOne, how did you attach your braided hose/valve to the nylon fitting?

CPVC for hot water -
I used close nipple with teflon tape
A little awkward to seat, but has worked really well for several years now

I was thinking of using a CPVC threaded 1/2 fitting to hot water tank, then connect a 1/4 turn CPVC ball valve to the other end if I can find both ends threaded. If not, I would have to glue piece of pipe and fitting to allow me to connect ball valve.
Think that will work?
What is wrong with nylon fitting? See my attachment, this is what I would like to use
Any other suggestions are welcome
Thanks
Dean
