flat towing disaster

towing problem
have a 2020 precpt 31 ul and i flat tow a grand cherokee trailhawk 2017 model. i have ready brute elite II tow bar with a blue ox BX1128 base plate...have used it for about 4000 miles. Its also hooked up with a brake system. On our last trip with this hookup about 28 miles from home we saw the jeep come loose on one of the base plates and fishtail into the other land of a two lane road in the rain...we were going slow due to the weather and there were 4 or 5 vehicles behind us...when we got the precept stop the jeep was at a 45 degree angle in a bind in the ditch and the bus was on the road in the rain. When i tried to detach the tow bar it was in a bind and it took me moving the jeep, that had two wheels in a ditch and moving the bus back to take off the tension. Found the base plate on the drivers side had come unattached to the frame all bots missing, and the other side was now loose. I always check before leaving that everything is tight and correct...The dealership installed this 11 months ago...I was very lucky not to hit as traffic was coming both directions....Insurance for car is different from rv, so I am working with two deductibles and neither want to insure the towing bar and plate...any thoughts...please help

I'd be having a conversation with the dealer since they obviously did not install it properly.

Just a heads up as to what you might run in to with the dealer. Most installs of that kind come with a warning as you are picking up the unit that the bolts and connections will need to be checked and re-tightened as necessary. If that was not done you may be in for a fight to get them to admit fault.

You need to give them a chance to make things rite with you. If no success , find a good RV Lawyer and get some advice on what to do …Also it may just be cheaper to get it fixed. Lawyers can be expensive….
