How do you carry on a conversation at 65mph?

Not that I travel at 65, more like 62/63 but the noise is still terrible, DW and I have to shout to be heard. What to other Class A owners do?

I've noticed that firemen wear head sets to communicate in the cab of their firetrucks so that thought progressed into why not in the cab of our motor home?

I'm not convinced I can sell the idea to DW to wear David Clark headsets plugged into an intercom but that is the direction I am headed with a pair of Sampson Racing crew headphones plugged into an aviation portable intercom.

Anyone else tired of the noise and shouting?

I always enjoyed the "roar of the road" in our Class C, droned out the DW.

Hmmm, maybe it's not a problem to other owners?

I considered adding sound deadening material under the carpet but that's a bigger job than I wanted to get into. Also don't know how much it would cut the noise.

Bought a 2 place aviation intercom off ebay yesterday with assorted ear phones and mics for $79 so I'll see if this is a viable solution for us.

My only complaint is it's hard to hear the radio and music. There is a lot of air being disrupted with the rig and kayaks on the roof. My 06 diesel seemed quiet when new but the newer ones make it seem like a locomotive.

I've given up on the radio except when we are parked. Even those speakers at the top of the windshield can't overcome the engine, wind and transmission noise. First, second and third gears have an awful lot of gear noise, fourth, fifth and overdrive are much quieter. Keeping the engine under 2000 rpm helps somewhat but still difficult to have a conversation.

Yeah, I really don't relate to this. You cannot hear the radio?
I don't think the noise is excessive at all.
My Mustang is much louder than my class C, and holding a conversation is not a problem.

And therein lies one huge difference between a Class A and Class C. I've always believed the truck chassis were insulated better than the open frames used in the Class A's. None of my Ford trucks were noisy except for the '99 F250 with the 7.3 International engine.

Ours gets loud when it's downshifted, and by loud I mean 'louder'. We can still carry on a convo, but the radio has to be cranked to overcome the road noise.

Now that our warranty is expired, I may delve into soundproofing the dog house, an the under side that I can get to.

It's loud downshifting for sure. But climbing short steep hills (appalacians) instead of cramming the gas I back off with foot and do 35 mph at 2500 rpm. These were 8 and 9% grades. But it's loud downshifting coming down the hill as I like to use engine braking.

Ours was loud till I insulated the inside of the doghouse and under the dash. The difference was amazing. It also kept all the engine heat out of the RV.

Yes it was work but well worth it. I (and others) posted info here with photos if you do a search

My wife is sleeping for 90% of the ride. She is really like a new born. Gets in the truck and after 10 minutes of rocking and rolling she's out cold. It's hard on me because after 8 hours of driving I'm ready for a nap and she's ready to explore the new territory.

We just use Sign Language...just need to keep one eye on the road while the other eye is on DW (lol)

Just finished a 4,000+ mile trip in our 2018 Alante. Pretty noisy when it downshifts on steeper hills into 3rd gear so I try to keep it from going that low by reducing my speed. Other than that it is not bad for radio and talking. I do plan to carpet the TOP side of the doghouse for some noise and heat reduction. Will let you know how that works.
