Removing TV from Televator

Remote control sensor on Furion 40” TV on Televator on 17 Precept 35 S quit. Solution is to replace w/another 40” as even a 43” doesn’t fit the slot as much as we’d like to get a bigger unit.

When removing the hard surface top on the Televator, there are 4 screws that have to be removed so top bracket can come off. After loosening the two screws on each side should then allow the bracket to be removed, take off the bad tv and install the replacement one.

Problem us with the top screws that look like “Star” ones, as well as the sides:

The 15 is too small and the 20 is too large. I have 3 sets of bits and all only have 15 and 20, plus many other sizes, but nothing in between those 2, which is what these seem to need.

Any ideas please?

I used a #1 or #2 square drive to remove ours. If you look closely you may find that the screw head is a 8 point star rather than a 6 point.

The square bit will work. I asked my local Snap on rep and he didn’t have a bit that would fit.

I used the #2square bit. It's available in the bit kits assortment. Nothing special. Oh and replacing the tv was a pita. The tv has to be thin as the original, the mounts for the bracket may be different as mine were and I drilled new holes in the bracket. The audio out may not have rca or headphone jacks (I had to use an audio converter digital to analog), and then my cat5 connection had a lot of snow so I had to buy new cat5 to HDMI adapters. All good now with a 4k smart TV.

The "star" screws are called Torx.

Just an FYI on infrared remotes. Your digital camera (phone, tablet, or computer) can "see" the infrared spectrum. Point it at one of your cameras and press any button on the remote. You should see a bright spot coming from the front of the remote.

Good calls on the square bit. Poor eyesight at 72!No wonder my torx bits didn’t work.

Took advantage of a call to Jayco regarding the recent brake line recall and they confirmed it’s a square bit and thankfully have plenty of them.

New TCL/Roku has 200 VESA pattern same as the Furion. The remote works perfectly as can use on bedroom TV with no problem. It’s the sensor receptor on the 40 that quit. Repair almost twice what new TV cost.

Got universal stand for the 40 and will use as second monitor. Leaving Wed for Rally and will exchange sets when return next Tue. Thanks guys!

So... after a few hours to try to remove first the top bracket of the Televator with an S2 bit, the side screws were so tight that it was a no go and two different bits with a variety of wrenches and drivers couldn’t loosen the other 3.

So then I removed the S3 bolts and went to install the TCL replacement. Well... Oh boy!!! VESA 200 yes but not the industry standard 200x200 but 200x100!!! So back went the repackaged TCL.

Went to BB and bought a Samsung 40 after verifying the VESA pattern but... the bolt receptors were M8 so off to Lowe’s for the recommended 20’s as indicated in the manual but also bought some 25’s just in case and those were the ones that had the required length. So after enlarging the slots on the Televator (took quite a while) I was able to mount only 3 because the power socket rested on the bracket and wouldn’t allow the final one. Tested the Televator and the Samsung is 1/16-1/8” too wide for the cut-out.

Six hours into this my 72 year old body could do no more. Tomorrow I will uninstall, repackage and return to BB.

I will order the 40” Sharp as my BB store has none in stock. So... FYI, the Furion is 35 3/4 x 21 1/16 x 3 7/8. The Sharp is 36.1 (the Samsung was 36.3 so that 0.2 difference should be enough) x 21.2 x 3.2. Should be here by end of next week.

If anyone has successfully changed their Furion 40 “Dumb” (replacement from etrailer such a deal for $424.34) for anything else, please, please share with us. I’ve just offered today’s adventure for your guidance.

Palms, don’t give up just yet.
I replaced my 39” Seiki with a 40” Samsung smart TV. I had to enlarge the width of the opening and used a jigsaw to make the cut. I tried to take just enough off both sides so the TV cleared the opening equally on each side. Just take it a little at a time so you don’t cut too much. That way when the televator is in the down position the existing top still covers the opening and the bigger gap is only slightly noticeable to me because I’m the one who did it. No one else even knows. Good luck with your project.

I did it on my '16 NP. Let me see if I can find the link on the 377 mods thread.

There's more to it than fitting the opening. Read my post above, especially audio outs on the tv and how they mate with your jayco system. My 50" on 31ul had a vesa 300x 200 which nothing matched. Had to drill holes in the jayco bracket to match. Sometimes I think it may have been better to get a cheap insignia tv since they are narrow and cheap. 4k doesn't do much except on good dvds. In a campground cable it's worthless. Mine is a smart Samsung 4k.

Well, if anyone’s going to do this, the way to go is the Sharp 40” Roku. 200x200 VESA (you’ll only need the shorter M6’s) and it fitted and was able to scan over the air meantime and all good. Had to go through the TCL and Samsung to finally get to the solution.

BB at $179 today plus 2 yr BB warranty. What a learning experience! Thanks for your help, assistance and support!!!
