Spare Tire?

Hello World. Sorry for the dumb question but I'm going to be installing a TST-507 TPMS next week and was wondering if the Alante's come with a spare tire. My Alante is in storage so I can't look for myself (I guess I can wait a week and check...) but I wanted to see if I need to order another sensor.

Can't answer your specific question but I would order an extra sensor anyway. If one goes out while you are on a trip it is cheap insurance.

You don't need one for the spare as they only operate while the tire spins so it won't show pressure unless you use it.

But as Travelinjw said, a spare is a good idea as even the best fail and batteries always will so a spare is handy. I bought a set of 4 for my single axle and now have 2 spares.

Some great advice all. Spare sensor ordered. Kind of surprised there isn't a spare... or integrated TPMS from Ford on the F-53 chassis... or better handling

X2, these do not come with one, but if you have the 19.5" wheels, you'd be smart to get one and put it in the pass through in the first bay and have it with you when you have a flat. Its not too bad to find a service truck that can change a tire, but try finding said tire at night on the highway in the middle of nowhere.

G

Did you get the flow-through sensors or the cap sensors? I got the flow-through for the RV and the cap sensors for the TOAD.

My Alante did not come with a spare, as I always have my Ford Ranger Toad along I bought a used 19.5X6.75 136mm rim and a take off at a RV shop (just for the recycling fee) and mounted a bracket on the headboard. A spare is a must when you are in the back country.

They only operate when the tire spins? I beg to differ, my TST units operate all the time, even sitting still.

x2... Missed that originally, but this is 100% true. TST works all the time, amd my batteries lasted a couple years. I don't have my spare mounted to a rim. Too hard to get in and out of the first passthrough and I can find a roadside repair truck to do that, but finding the spare tire when on a 19.5" rim is not easy.

We are taking a 3 month trip to Alaska this summer with a couple others, and roadside service trucks may not be available when, and if, I need one, and I have no problem changing a flat myself. And yes, my InnoTechRV TPMS sensors work all of the time, but the ones in my Truck only work when spinning, good job Ford.

100% in that case I would have at least one fully mounted and ready to go... we've not ventured out that far yet...

Oh my... take a shovel to change a tire.
Or call AAA.

My TST-507 works all the time too... 21 months so far on original batteries.
With the amp on, range is still over 100 yards line-of-sight.

If you have external sensors there is no reason to have one for the spare. Just swap it over to the spare when it is placed in use. TST-507 sensors will turn off in a short time if NO pressure is present. I take mine off during the off season, saves battery life.
