Toad Vehicle Warning - CRV

I’ve seen a lot of threads on here asking what people tow behind their RV. The Honda CRV is very popular (2014 or earlier to tow 4 wheels down). I recently purchases a 2014 with 73,000 miles, in great shape, I thought. As the weather cooled, I’ve noticed a rattling or grinding sound in the engine for 2 seconds on cold starts. After doing some research, and speaking to Honda, this is a known engineering issue with the VTC actuator. See Honda service bulletin 16-012. And here’s the really bad news. It’s $1,500 - $2,000 to fix. The Honda service tech immediately knew what I was talking about and said it’s a common issue. So, buyer beware of this.
There’s some suggestions that you can turn the key to II for 5 seconds, then off. Repeat again, off, then start as usual. This is suppose to get s9,e oil pumped up there. Tried this once after the vehicle was sitting for 2 days in the cold. I did not hear the rattle sound. Fingers crossed!
