Bed support “doorway”
many people have noticed the front bed sags, and build a wall in the front storage compartment to add support.
We have some big camping chair that we store under the bed, walling off that storage area would prevent us taking those chairs with us.
My solution is to build a doorway. I used a piece 2x2 pine as a header, reinforced with a piece of angle iron.
I then built 2 stub walls also with 2x2’s to take the load from the header. The left over 2x2’s was used as fillers on between the bed plywood and header
I didn’t want to attach the header to the stub walls, restricting access when the bed is in the lifted position. So, I attached the header directly to the bed platforms studs and having them land on the stud wall
Material:
- 2x2 pine header, jack studs and fillers
- 1x2 pine (scraps) for the base plate and blocks for the stub wall
- 1 ˝ angle iron (I used slotted because it is both lighter in weight and easier on my pocketbook. as a bonus, it is galvanized)
- Misc leftover screws

(many thanks to all those that mod their trailers that have given me inspiration)
