Master Cabinet Mod in 30U

So for those of us that got the older style cabinets that are narrow, tall, and deep, with a top 3' above the bed, this is a little mod i did to make them more useful for the wife and I.
Did mine first and got an OK to to do the wife's, then thought to take pics during the mod.
Here is the before:

And here is an after:
http://www.jaycoowners.com/picture.p...&pictureid=610
The series of photos are in my public albums for those that want to look it over.
This has made a nightstand, better storage (we added some wire shelving) and best of all I can now make the bed without resorting to acrobatics that I am to old to do.
If you want more info to do this yoursef let me know.

Wow , I really like what you did there. I have a similar issue in my 28u. Not having a small shelf to put things like your wallet on, or your clock or stuff from your pockets is bit of an issue. I wanted to open up the side facing the bed but couldn't convince the wife. I'll show her what you've done and see what she thinks. When we bought our house we had an unfinished basement which I framed , wired and drywalled which she loves but can't convince her of changing the cabinet in the trailer. I really want to cut out an opening for a second door for our trailer but will have to catch her in a really good mood for that one though.

I guess the Feathers are somewhat different with the front bedroom layout then the Jayflights? On mine, the pass through storage is under the front of the bed, with nightstands on top on each side of the bed, no cabinet. Above and independent of the nightstand is a small wardrobe cabinet on each side of the bed, and more cabinets over top.

Lee, your right, some of the trailers with the front bed don't come with the upper and lower cabinets but instead are one piece. I do have the pass thru storage under the front part of the bed. Our bed is quite high off the floor and I have thought of lowering it. I looked in the pass thru storage on other units and have noticed that the bed frame protrudes into the storage space. this doesn't happen in our unit.

Yeah I could see where having no night stands or shelves to put your "stuff" on might be a small inconvenience. One bad thing about having the pass through under the bed is that space gets no heat when it is cold out and can make the bed and bedroom a bit colder, there are spaces between my mattress and the nightstand where I can push my hand down into the storage area, cold air obviously comes through that space. Another thing is with those almost universal storage door keys, if someone opens up the front pass through compartment door, they are essentially in your trailer. All they have do do is push up the bed!

I've done a few interior cabinet mods over the years and usually can find whatever I need at Lowes. Then I try to paint things up the same wood color as the other cabinets...

Nice job...

Well thank you for all the kind words. I am a plumber by trade so this little job was a bit out of my comfort zone but went real well. I did buy some new tools to do the job so there was a side bonus to the job (Honey, if I get that tool I know I can do it right. And I better get that too.):hihi:

You're as bad as I am. I love excuses to buy new toy...ahem...tools. Funny thing is I'm single and don't need anyone's permission to buy them other than my cheap side.
