Storage shelf for basement

There is a company called Pit Pal that makes all sorts of neat storage devices for race car trailers. Their stuff is all made of aluminum, and it is all very pricey. One of their very first products was a storage shelf for plastic oil bottles. You can go to their website to see the kinds of stuff they make...

www.pitpal.com

Other companies have Pit Pal knockoff stuff. The shelf in the pictures below was made by a company called Pit Posse. I bought it from Amazon for about $30. This one will hold a dozen of the one quart oil bottles. It is aluminum and powder coated black. There are also other sizes. I use this one to carry oil for the truck, oil for the generator, carb defender for the generator, propane bottles for my grill, and freon for the truck. You can put just about anything in there. I just had too much crap loose in the basement, in cardboard boxes, etc.

The basement walls are paper thin. They won't support the weight that the shelf will carry. I used some flat aluminum stock (3/16" thick, if I remember correctly) and put some 90 degree bends in it so I could screw it to the bedroom floor joists. The shelf is screwed to the aluminum and through the wall.

Two pics, showing the shelf, and a closeup of one of my homemade aluminum brackets...
