Air Adjustment for furnace burner

Hi all, the furnace is generating excessive soot... burning very dirty.

My dealer claims these burners are not adjustable. I've pulled the furnace, blown out the soot with compressed air, and reinstalled.

The soot smell is real bad in the camper. I have physically inspected as much of the burner tube as is visible (while the unit was sitting on the bench in the shop.)

I see no cracks or burnt-though holes on the tube.

I'm left with purchasing a new furnace unit, but before i drop that $700 I figured I'd ask if anyone has any luck with adjusting the flame on their atwood?

pulling the unit is not that difficult. Lining the exhaust tube up to the exterior vent is the worst of it.

I should include just a bit more info... Last winter the regulator on the LP tanks failed... slowly. What I mean is, it overtime apparently degraded the flow to the point where the gas range would fire, and the gas water heater would fire... but the Furnace eventually would not fire. I believe while the regulator was going "bad" the pressure leading to the furnace was dropping below the minimum W.C. spec. Once the pressure dropped below the spec, I believe the furnace burner started running very yellow... hence "sooting up." the inside of the furnace cabinet.

Once the regulator was changed out, the furnace runs fine.... except for the sooty smell.

Also, the weekend when the Regulator finally stopped.... the CO monitor was very unhappy! So, the sooting absolutely was getting into the squirrel cage blower.

I think this unit has to be pulled again, and opened up and brushed while hitting it with compressed air.

argh. there isn't going to be a simple fix for this, is there?
