Inverter upgrade recommendations

I recently hooked up my coach battery incorrectly by connecting all the black wires to the negative terminal and red to positive. I failed to mark these connections prior to winterization. Long story short, I smoked the inverter. I pulled the Xantrex 1000 which has 4 30a fuses that are soldered on the circuit board (blown). I will probably replace those. In the mean time I was thinking that this is a great time to upgrade inverters. The xantrex 1000 and 1800's do not charge the battery when on shore power. I'm not sure how the batteries charge when on shore power or if upgrading the inverter with battery charging capability will be compatible with my 2015 Greyhawk 31FS configuation. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Oh and yes all but one of the black wires are in fact positive. Not sure why Jayco used black wire for positive connections. Nevertheless I took out the battery and should have marked them accordingly.

RV's use houshold wiring colors: White is neutral. Red or Black is hot.

The inverters never charged the battery. The converter does that when you are connected to shore power or running on a generator.

Check the fuses between the converter and the battery as well.

Your batteries charge from the converter when on shore power. JAYCO is not the only manuf that use black for positive and white negative.

I hooked the battery up backwards and blew the internal fuses internal to the inverter no AC circuits affected. I guess if I upgraded to an inverter with battery charge capability it would compete with the converter and overcharge or damage each other.

That is a very true statement.

Until you totally understand what you are doing, stick with replacing like-for-like modules. Or be prepared to spend LOTS more money.

I went with the xantrex 1800. All Is well just have to figure out why the alternator is not charging my house battery.
