Thought Wife Blew Up Auto Leveler

We are currently camped at a nice San Diego campground. This morning the wife was filling the water reservoir on the coffee pot when it tipped over flooding the entrance door area. The auto leveler control panel got wet so she wiped it down. RED ALERT!!!!!

All of a sudden the system started going crazy. The indicator lights were flashing, the jacks partially retracted and then kept trying to do something (what, I don't know), and one jack was stuck about 3" off the ground.

I tried retracting the one jack I could easily see but it wouldn't move up or down. Powering off and back on didn't help. I couldn't raise it by selecting retract all or by an individual button. I started worrying about how I would drive home with a jack hanging down.

I removed the control panel to dry the board off but it really wasn't wet. I hoped for the best and plugged it back in and hit the retract all button. All the jacks came up normally. Ah, problem fixed with the power reset. Then again, maybe not.

Hit the auto level and it went crazy again with the sound of constant cycling, flashing indicators, and the same jack stuck 3" above the ground. Just shoot me now!

Pulled the control panel again to research replacement costs. Finally plugged it back in and hit the retract all button. All jacks came up normally. I had pondered the situation before I reinstalled the panel and had a thought. What if I tried to renull it with the jacks all retracted (since it would do that) and see what happens.

So, with the jacks retracted I did the null procedure and then hit the auto level button with all fingers crossed. It went through the normal levelling procedure and was now happy (me too!). I levelled the rig and then renulled to a fairly level position. Retracted all and did the auto level and it worked. Happy days!!!! All fixed. I patted myself on the back for a few hours. Wife didn't bother praising my brilliance. She just said that I am so stubborn when I can't fix something. Guess that is the best compliment I can get from her.

The moral of the story - whatever you do, DO NOT wipe the face of the control panel with 12 volt power active in the rig. I think what happened is that she somehow managed to reprogram some off the wall null that it couldn't deal with.

Level now, back to the normal relaxation of camping. Miller time!

Figuring out what’s wrong can definitely be frustrating. Good job and glad to see you worked through it and got it working again.
