I just picked up mine.
Everything has been flushed during PDI.
I carry a 5 gal container for drinking water.
I sanitize my system twice a year, but won't bother just yet.

It's not really necessary the first year but it's a good practice to sanatize at the beginning of the season if your camper sits over a long winter.

Your camping habits will probably dictate the need to sanatize the FW tank. If you are like us, we tend to stay at CGs with water and electric hook ups. We have only used the FW tank once in 4 years so I have only sanitized it once. Sanitizing the lines is pretty simple using the anti-freeze siphon tube off of the water pump.

At a minimum I would fill and drain a new system.. wash out any plastic bits and dirt from construction. Since your going that far then adding 1/4 cup bleach is really a non issue.

And then you have Sanitized your system - after you rinsed it one more time.

We too never use our fresh water tank for consumption or cooking in food. It is only used for showers and other non comsumption things/// This is just us saying this - not saying the fresh water tanks are bad for you... We just don't do it...

We are grind and brew fresh bean coffee lovers so we bring along our favorite brand of bottled water that gives us the same coffee taste every time we make it. So we just use the same bottled water for drinking and preparing food...

Of course in an emergency I would drink water out of the creek using a sock for a drainer haha...

It all depends on what you want to do...

When winterizing I just drain the fresh water tank... No water - No freezing... Putting gallons of the pink stuff in the fresh water tank just never sounded like a good idea to me...

Our water system is a very less complicated system others may have... We just drain all of the water every we can, blow out the few water lines we have using a tankless 12VDC air compressor going into the city water port using an adapter and then only a small amount of pink stuff filling the one P-trap we have... Opening the HOT and COLD faucets when draining at the low water point also drains out our hot water heater quite abit. Have never froze up anything since doing this and we like to camp out during the winter months... I probably would do abit more if we were up in areas where it stayed below zero for days on end...

Doing this we can just fill the fresh water tank the next day when the temp goes up and we are back in business once again...

It should be good as it is, but I'd sanitize it. We drink the water out of our tank though. I sanitize every spring.

I dunno. Odds are Jayco has bought hundreds of those tanks and they're just sitting there on shelves in what's probably a dusty dirty environment.

Personally, I've eaten a lot of dirt as a kid and have had my fill of it.
I'd rinse...

They may be sitting on someones shelf, but Jayco operates JIT...it's amazing how little inventory they carry. I can't see any reason not to clean it out and sanitize it at the same time.

Happy Camping
