The silver lining is that it will give many Ram owners the opportunity to upgrade to F150's.

How do you comment on this without getting political

That's one problem with buying a Fiat that was made in Mexico. Don't worry though I'm sure the tax payers are willing to bail them out again.

I doubt the buy back will adversely affect Chrysler. They are only going to have to buy them back at "depreciated value". So if that is true, how many do you really think will give up their relatively new truck for a loss? Owners can still have the option to have their truck repaired.

Does the truck recall involve the "death wobble" I've seen mentioned in other forums?

Yes - the buy back is for RAM trucks that have "defective steering parts that can cause drivers to lose control" - aka the "death wobble". It includes several models from 2008-2012. Also, some Aspen/Durango's from 2009 and Dakota trucks from 2009-2011.

"death wobble" still exists? I thought chrysler did away with solid axle front ends? I really havent paid attention to them since Ive left the dealership.

It was a big problem in the late 90s early 00s, but easily fixed with a new trac bar. Interesting...

According to this site it wasn't truly fixed until they re-designed the steering system in 2013:

Dodge Ram Death Wobble

Of course - it didn't do much good to fix that problem and then allow for it to be compromised electronically like this:

Hackers Remotely Kill a Jeep on the Highway—With Me in It | WIRED

While the article focuses on Jeep there are numerous models including RAM trucks with the Uconnect feature that are affected. So I guess I'm adding my RAM to the list of things I get to patch....

Why would we want to downgrade to a Ford.

Me neither.

Those recall news stories misconstrued the actual cost and scope since they were based on rumors and not the actual consent decree. Most trucks will be repaired.
