Looking at the Airstream Caravel (22FB) gvw of 5,000 lbs I'd say you had a problem with anti-sway set up, trailer loading, and possible driver experience. I divested my ownership of a tt that would not behave. I added a battery, I added 20 lbs additional propane. I moved the spare from the rear bumper to underneath 1/3rd distance ahead of axles to hitch. I added 15/32 inch plywood to reinforce bed, and put more weight on hitch. Pulled with 2015 F-150 Screw with ecoboost, rated at 7,400 lbs. Trailer weighed in at under 6,000 loaded with 850 lbs on the hitch. The tail still wagged the dog. Semis approaching from the rear caused so much commotion, I always knew one was coming around before he got there. 10 mph crosswind drove me crazy. In the end, it was better after adding 200 lbs to the hitch, but I found applying trailer brakes ONLY, helped calm thing down. Well...until I traded for a tt 3 feet longer, with 26 inch longer wheelbase. Made all the difference in the world. IMHO, the Durango did not contribute to the accident, the set-up did, possibly the loading (were you carrying water?) and maybe driver experience.
