I know it's a longshot...Any ideas

Looking for ideas. We bought our F150 Lariat SCrew 4x4 almost a year ago from a dealer. It has a factory tow pkg, tranny cooler, loaded options. There is a simple switch on the dash installed by previous owner(dealer has no contact info). At the time of purchase I thought the switch might be for controlling trailer lights manually(blink the lights etc) Bought TT a month ago, hooked up trailer, no dice. Have tried it during several applications, seems to control nothing. I hear nothing running, activating etc. Cargo light already has switch. Thought maybe was to control wig-wags or blue lights(volunteer firefighter) but see no signs of former light mountings or extra wires under dash etc. I know the possibilities are endless. Just short of tearing apart the dash to trace the wires any ideas as to what it could possibly control or areas to look? No extra accessories in cab or that were removed. Other options eliminated- does not operate passenger eject, mute the kids, illuminate Prepare for Takeoff Fasten Safety Belts sign, engage warp speed nor open a hyperspace window, and no it's not to control NOS(nitrous oxide tanks). :hihi: Thanks for any and all input

You are right this is probably a long shot but I will takes a stab at it. I am thinking that maybe the previous owner has some kind of warning light, like the yellow ones for construction, hooked into the cigarette lighter and liked to keep it plugged in instead of plugging it in all the time.

No idea what it could be for. I mounted one like that under my dash that sends power to the camera on the rear of my old 5th wheel.

I had the same toggle switch in my pick up. When in the up position it powered my airhorns and air compressor, when in the down position it powered my factory horn.

Could it be a driver EJECT SWITCH?? .........just check and make sure the parachute is packed properly. The mute switch would be a great idea as well.

What about a snow plow? Would the previous owner have been plowing any snow?

Dang...could be anything...rocket launcher, gatling gun...lol

Some of my diesel associates use a switch like that to lock up the torque converter sooner.

I didn't think you needed a self-destruct switch on a Ford, Crabman. Don't they do that all by themselves?

Come to think of it, all vehicles do that naturally- just at different rates.

It looks like there's a cover plate beneath the switch- possibly for an ash tray or some other option the truck doesn't have. It's hard to tell from the picture. Can you remove it and see some of the wiring behind the dash?

I was thinking that, but was scared to say it! :hihi: I know my last Ford did not need the switch. But that was a long time ago, 1984 F250 that I special ordered. If it had the switch, I would have flipped it long before I sold it!
