Need help with tow amount :)

Hi everyone, we are in search of a new tow vehicle. Currently we
Use a 2010 Jeep Liberty but in search of a little more.

We have narrowed it down to a Tahoe, Durango or Acadia.

I hadn't really thought of an Acadia, but I can't figure out the tow capacity.
It says 5200 weight capacity

Weights & Capacities
Curb Weight: 4656 lbs.
Gross Weight: 6411 lbs.
Maximum Payload **: 1755 lbs.
Maximum Towing Capacity **: 5200 lbs.
Cargo Capacity, All Seats In Place: 24.1 cu.ft.
Maximum Cargo Capacity: 116.1 cu.ft.
** When adequately equipped, which may require engine and/or other drivetrain upgrades

Our trailer is a 2013 jayco swift 154 bh

Unloaded Vehicle Weight (lbs) 2,645
Dry Hitch Weight (lbs) 230
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (lbs) 3,500
Cargo Carrying Capacity (lbs)

Can anyone help me? Thanks!!

I did a very quick search and the most I saw was the 2017 Arcadia was good for 4000 lbs Max Conventional Trailering, the 2016 is 5200 lbs.

This varies by engine, check with the dealer.

The one thing I would warn you about, front wheel drive isn't the best towing option regardless of what the manufacturer says, neither are most AWD as the rear wheels on many only get a percentage of the power the front wheels receive.

Also; you need to pay attention to the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded ready to roll and add this to your tow vehicle cargo weight, see if your over.

Many vehicles will tow a lot of weight, but not carry much weight. Don't believe the manufactures curb weights, they are often calculated on a stripped down vehicle.

If I were down to a couple tow vehicles I would test drive them to a Flying J, etc. and have it weighed on the truck scales with you the wife, etc. in the vehicle if you're serious about your towing. Then add for a fuel tank of fuel and your loaded trailers tongue weight.

Good luck!

Get the biggest tow vehicle you can afford. Especially if you think you might upgrade to a larger TT in the future.

If you are looking at a mid-size SUV, I would suggest you take a look at the VW Touareg V-6. Our, new to us, 2011 Touareg V-6 is rated to tow around 7,200 pounds and we towed our Cresliner Super Hawk 1900, weight 3,500 pounds, the other day and it worked great, towed the boat very well with no wiggle, put the boat in the lake and took it out just fine and, according to the console got 14 mpg towing to the lake and back. Probably a little overstated, but close if all my other fill-ups are any indication. Cost of a new one might not be much more than an Acadia and is certainly rated as a more capable tow vehicle. If you are looking at a GM product, might just take a look at the Tahoe or the similar GM product, not the Suburban size.

We tow our Starcraft launch 24RLS with a Durango and have had no problems. We do have the big V8 hemi and factory tow package. It's rated for 7200 pounds and loaded the launch is 6000. We took it all over this summer and enjoy the ride in the Durango better than a truck, and it is more comfortable as a day use car in the winter or summer.

If you are interested in the Acadia, get a '16 or older. The '17 remodel drastically cut the towing capacity (might explain the difference in numbers you are seeing). The Traverse (Acadia's twin) still has the larger capacity for '17, then it gets the same downsizing for the '18 model year.

Love our Traverse as a TV. With over 3/4 ton of payload and substantial towing capacity it is a great vehicle for the smaller trailers (under about 24'). I have never felt that our TT is too heavy for it.
