When to replace spare tire

So I just got a new set of Goodyear Endurance for my 2015 White Hawk (replaced Rainier's). They were in good shape with appx. 3-4k miles on them, no dry rot. Anyhow, I still have the never-used Rainier spare on the back of my TT (with a cover over it). How long does a spare tire last age-wise? I know the sun/heat would make a difference and here in Texas it gets pretty 'warm' in the summer. Trailer is under cover when not used.

Every time I buy a set or even 2 tires, I have best one installed on the spare. Last time I put new tires on the RV, I replaced the spare also with a new one. 4 years now and it’s never been on the ground. I may have to rethink this!

It’s nice to finally have a RV tire that has a chance to wear out.

I could be wrong, but I've always been told to replace the spare 7-10 years after the date code printed on the tire.

On a TT I am not sure. I replaced my when I put new tires on the TT. I did change tire load ratings. Over all, ST tires are known for their poor life expectancy. I do not want to be in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday, and be wondering if I can make it to the next service station.

My understanding of tire dry rot caused by low air pressure, excessive heat, extreme low temps, long exposer to direct sun light and sitting for long periods.

if traveling on well traveled areas then you could go out to 7 years... but if you are going to be where you are 100 miles from anything, you should replace it when you replace the rest of your tires... $100 is cheap insurance... if you go to put on your spare and it only goes 50 miles that would s*ck... hopefully AAA or whomever you have can get to you in less than 5 hours...

Think of it as an extra tank of gas....

Tires begin detreourating when removed from the mold, above mentioned things also contribute to them

I always replace mine when I buy new tires. Before I did that, twice I had the spare flat when I went to put it on after a blowout. I also now have 2 spare tires due to that (and some long trips I went on). I had to wait 2 hours for AAA to show up on the 15 freeway between San Diego and Riverside.
