I have not replaced a tank, but I have done some plumbing and electrical work to mine. All super easy. I do not have an underbelly, so it is all very exposed to look at. Take pictures as you go. I have two hoses on the top of the tank, gravity feed, and overflow. On the bottom edge of the tank is a single outlet pipe. It Tees off for the pump pickup and the low point drain.
As for the tank removal, there are two cross members that supports the top lip of the tank. I suspect you will need to drill out a few large rivets to remove one of these cross members. I would consider using grade 8 bolts as a replacement for the rivets.
