De-winterize questions and concerns
We live in Colorado and are planning on a trip to Utah end of next week.
I will de-winterize my camper before the trip so we can use water.
Now, colorado usually sees late freezes in April and even may sometimes.
Should i have the camper re-winterized after this trip to avoid any potential damage from possible snow/freezing?
Or could i, in case there will be a spring snow storm, just park the camper at my house and have the furnace run? Would that eliminate any risk of pipes/lines freezing?
Any advise would help.
Btw, we have a Jayfeather x17z.
thanks

re-winterize ... then you can sleep well.. ask the boat owners who froze their motors the last couple of years because they left a light on in the motor housing and the light failed.... or wasn't strong enough... 30 min to winterize is certainly cheaper than the 4-6k for a rebuild... here it is even easier.. just do it...

Better safe than sorry
Like they said, sleep well knowing you did the right thing. Not sure about your trailer, but I really don’t think winterizing is that big of a deal. Definitely worth the time, effort, and few gallons of antifreeze. We were down at Lake Pueblo State Park this past weekend and I completely wussed out. They only have electric sights right now, but it was chilly at night so I didn’t take on water. We just brought the totes and made due. What little water and other stuff that went into the black and grey didn’t freeze and dumped like usual on Sunday. It was inconvienent, but I know I didn’t mess our plumbing up. Have fun and be safe.

+1 for winterizing. It's a pain in the rear, but it's cheap and doesn't take that long. If you're at all concerned (and it sounds like you are) then just do it. There have been years when I de-winterized and re-winterized three times before it got warm enough in spring that I didn't have to have the pink stuff in there.

Question really is how cold and for how long! At minimum I would buy a few jugs of RV antifreeze and have them at hand and ready if needed.
Personally, I would drain they system (low point drains), then blow out the lines, of the majority of the remaining water. This should be fine in most situations. I would then add a bit of RV antifreeze to the P-Traps, to ensure they do not freeze.

In cases like you are describing I take along 2-3 two-gallon jugs of water for washing and flushing the toilet....., that way I just have to dump the tanks and pour some antifreeze in the toilet and traps. I'll boil some water if needed for washing.
Otherwise I agree with others, re-winterize prior departing Utah.

I'm the odd one out here. This happened to me a few years back. I de-winterized and we had a cold snap with lows in the mid 20's. I emptied the hot water tank, opened the low point drains and left them open and opened all of the faucets. I did not have a problem.
