Smile x17z sewage hose storage on rig

Hi all,

Just purchased a 2021 x17z and we are very excited to get camping this year. Just trying to plan ahead. We dont have the trailer yet but I wanted to poll and see what people are doing for storage of there sewage hose, aka `stinky slinky`. I know there is a small opening near the back of the trailer that is meant for the hose but I am hesitant to place it in there due to sanitary reasons. Is that storage area easy to clean...I have seen people in the group mount it on the back of the rear bumper area (with a plastic type tube), some people just put it in a tote bin. What are other doing in this case. If people could share there ideas, pictures and thoughts that would be great! Thanks in advance!

Our old '03 Kiwi 17a had a similar hose storage slot. Cleaning it was no big deal. What I didn't like that the inside of it was not very long. We were limited on the length of hose, not much more than 10'. At the time we rarely got a full hookup site so it was never an issue.

Some people have strapped a big PVC pipe on the bumper or under the trailer to carry a longer hose.

We use a 5"square plastic fence post strapped underneath for ours.

What dhinkle57 said. Get the fence post cover at Lowe's. My X17C has a puny bumper (C channel) so I got a 5/4" x 6" deck board and bolted to the bumper and then attached the post cover to that. Get 2 caps for the post cover, drill a hole where the cap overlaps the post cover and drop a bolt in to keep the cap in place during travels.

Here's what I did, 5x5 vinyl fence post , vinyl rain gutter to match, and a piece of 2x4, 2 zip ties, and 2 stainless kabob sticks, 2 fence 5x5 caps, And about 19 inches of aluminum flat stock. In the end I drilled straight down threw the caps -threw the 2x4 ends, used 2 wire ties on one end but not threw the wood ends, mounted it a little off center to the drivers side and used stainless 8 inch kabob sticks to secure the other end and make them removable, and wa-la I have poop hose storage and flex hose storage etc! works like a champ, and no rust.

That is a great idea. I was wondering what would work the best.

This is the rear bumper I added. I mounted a 2" receiver hitch to it.
It's strong enough to hold a bike rack and more.

where do you get the "plain" rain gutter? all I can find is "K" style.
I'd guess that'd work, but really like your idea, and product you used.

I keep the hose in a bucket wrapped in a sealed trash bag. I store that in the shower when not in use and bring it outside when arriving to the campsite. As long as you empty grey water AFTER you empty black water (which you should always do anyways) the soap from the grey water will clean out the hose pretty well.

I just attached the hose to the x17z's bumper with a 5" vinyl fence post. I looked at the 4" post (and the 4" round pvc pipe) but they were too small for the sewer attachments (4"1/2 would have been perfect but couldn't find that so I went to 5" vinyl post). The post was too long so I did cut it down to size so it was just slightly longer than the bumper with a jigsaw.

The bumper had two holes, one on each end, so no drilling of the bumper needed for attachment. Just drilled a hole in the post that corresponded to the holes in the bumper, then used a bolt, washers and nut for attachment. I did have to get large washers (1" across) since the bumper holes were a bit large. I drilled four holes in the end caps and holes at the end of the post for vents. I used a zip tie through an end cap hole and one of the holes in the bottom of the post so it hangs there when I open it up (so I won't lose it).

I just did it this past weekend so I haven't tried it out so not sure if I should try another method (maybe something simple like string or wire) to tie the ends caps to the post (thru the vent holes) so they don't fall out while driving.

I curl mine up and strap it down with Bungee cords on top of the spare tire/wheel in the front behind the gas tanks. Keeps it aired it!
