Alpha Systems Alpha-ply TPO roof sealing
Howdy,
I was going to reseal the self-leveling sealant areas on my Alpha-ply TPO roof with Alpha Systems 1021 sealant, due to the surface cracking that you can see in the photos around the ladder and radio antenna . Alpha Systems recommends soap and water to clean the areas but that doesn't entirely clean-up the surface of the existing sealant, unless what I see left over is just discoloration. I also tried some denatured alcohol on one area and that didn't help either. The soap and water (Dawn) took care of the loose material on top of the sealant but you can see it is still discolored. Can I lay down the self-leveling sealant over the existing discolored sealant surfaces on the roof and be confident it will adhere (after going over with Dawn and water)? All areas of existing sealant are this color. I believe originally in 2012 when new, this material was white.
Thanks,
Mike

You should be fine. I switched to 1201 a few years ago on advice of my dealer and am perfectly fine with it's performance on the whole as well as it's ability to stick to itself.

Mike, my '12 Eagle has an Alpha Ply roof as well. My caulk was doing the same as yours and it cleaned up fairly well with mineral spirits. Most of my seams and vents now have Eternabond tape but where I don't have the tape I clean and reapply with Dicor self leveling lap sealant.

Hmm, didn't mineral spirits soften the existing material? What do you mean by "fairly well"? I tried one area with denatured alcohol and that didn't clean anything better than Dawn/water and it softened the material a little. How did you apply the mineral spirits, as Alpha Systems told me to not do that? Below is what they told me yesterday when I called them:
-----
Called Alpha Systems and they said as long as I got surface dirt off and the existing material isn't hard and crumbling (which it is not) or moldy/mildew slimy (which it is not), I am good to go with laying new material down on top of the old. The old material is still adhered well to the membrane and I'm not about to try to peel it off and really make a mess of things (that would be a real battle). Just odd that it is a stained brown color on the surface (still white underneath if you scratch it), but they said don't worry about it, their stuff will adhere to it. So I will attack it today.

I applied the mineral spirits to a rag and then cleaned the surface of the caulk being careful not to get any on the roof itself. Yes it did soften the surface of the old caulk somewhat but the Dicor seemed to adhere better after that. Pinholes sometimes develop as the caulk deteriorates.

What roof material does Jayco use
I’m confused and can’t find the definitive answer on what roof material is used on the Jayflight series TT (2019 212QB SLX). No love on the web and the YouTube videos make me think it is TPO since it is white on top and gray on the bottom. However it has the pebble finish which some videos say is Alpha. Any advice? I want to use the correct products. Thanks

My Alpha Ply TPO roof has an orange peel texture to it. You can contact Jayco w/ you VIN and they can tell you what you have. I did that way back when via email.

Finished my application about 3 months ago. Been on a two month trip ending shortly. All looks good up top. Couldn't believe how much material it took, about 11 tubes, sheesh. Grossly underestimated at 4 tubes to start with.

I just redid our 2018 28.5 RSTS 5th wheel with the self leveling Alpha product. I cleaned the old areas with Simple Green and a tooth brush and was amazed how well it cleaned up the old stuff.
