Blending with spray paint

I need to apply some paint to a small blemish on the front cap of my fiver. The area in question is only about the size of a silver dollar right at the lower front edge of the cap. I went to an automotive paint shop and got a match made up in a spray can.

They made it sound simple enough, but I want to be sure I’m on the right track. They said do not tape off around it or l’ll have a line where new meets old. Said to only tape off what I don’t want paint to hit. Then said, just a couple or three sweeps, wait five, do it again. Just until the blemish is covered.

I don’t expect perfection, but don’t want my silver dollar blemish to become a small pizza size blemish.

Sounds about right…..lightly wet sand (800-1000 grit) first to give better adhesion, once you do the first coat let it flash (change sheen) and spray again, remember less is more. Then let it dry several hours or overnight and then lightly wet sand again to level paint back out and then use rubbing compound over the whole area to blend even move and bring a sheen back.

Yes, you are just going to blend it so some slight overspray is good in this case.

Blending with spray paint

We’ll, I washed it real good, and then hit it this morning the with paint. I’m pretty happy with the outcome. Repaired area is just left of the lowest light.

Yes, it looks great.

Please share the paint code/mix info. I too have a small blemish I want to take care of on my cap.
