New to RV living

I just bought a 2009 Designer. The water heater tank only has a plug. Should a anode be installed.

If you bought new and there was an anode, replace it, If none, then you don't need one. If it has a plastic plug, get a spare and when it leaks after a couple in/outs put in the new one. Kind of like carrying spare washers for the hose and fuses for 12 volt circuits.

There really is not a major need to remove that plug. I know that many do but if your system is filtered it is unlikely that gunk will get into the heater and if you do not have a rod, there is no rod debris to gather in the tank. If you are removing it to drain the tank, you can avoid that by simply opening the low points, opening the relief on top of the tank and allowing the lines to drain.

I replaced my plug after about 5 years because it was messed up by the previous owner taking it out and putting it back in. The tank was a clean as the day it came from the factory.

I make a stainless steel extension to replace the plug which makes it easier to drain and allows you to direct the water away from the trailer. I use an adapter, stainless water supply line and quarter turn thumb valve. Have used these for 20 years with no issue. Welcome to the forum.
