Smoke Detector Battery

As I was on the ladder at my MIL house replacing a couple worn out wired in smoke detectors I got to thinking about my 21QB . . .

Nine volt batteries don't last three years. I am so careful about maintenance yet I forgot to change the battery in the smoke detector for three years. I can't remember reading anyone mentioning changing the batteries.

I put a new one in at the same time I change out the house detectors...with the exception of the new ones I had to buy, to swap out expired ones. Now the new house detectors come with a 10 year non-replaceable battery. What is a guy to do with all his spare 9 volt batteries?? I have enough for 7 more years, for the TT!

Mine is at a storage facility.

Are you going to remember in ten years to change the battery? LOL No way I would.

The new ones for the house just get thrown away, after the ten years is up...if they really go that long. The make an annoying noise to let you know they're expired, and you have to spend another $30 for a new one!

The TT still gets the battery every year. The local news channels usually announce to swap out your batteries, once a year.

In the tt, I remove all the batteries each fall. The smoke detector I leave the cover flipped open, as a visual reminder that it is turned off

In the spring, I wrap a piece of masking tape around the batteries and write the date on them, just incase I forget the falling fall.

I got two of these

I put one in the basement and one in the trailer. They will communicate with each other in the event of smoke and carbon monoxide.
