Do you know if you have an Automatic Transfer Switch?
If so - probably.
I do, and I still don't - I unplug before starting the gen.

I don't have a generator but why would you want to run it while connected to an outside power source?

Thanks , that's what I through, I will keep unplugging it before I start the Generator.
Thanks for your knowledge, this is my first class C and I am sure I will have more questions every time I use it.

Hmmm, never really thought about it. We leave it hooked up to shore power when we do the monthly genset exercise. The automatic transfer switch handles switching the load, as it's designed to do, but I suppose there could be an issue if the ATS failed.

But it causes excessive arching inside the switch. An ATS is designed to switch when one source is de energized.

X2. I must not be awake yet. Why generate power if you already have power??

I assume they mean during transition. Like when you're leaving a site. You fire up the genny to get it going so you don't have to shut down the AC while you unplug from shore power.
I assume based on Grumpy's comment about arcing, that the ATS isn't designed to work quite that way?

Might just be me, but I power as many things down as I can before switching power sources.
A/C off before unplugging shore and starting generator.

pconroy, we do the same. This is what we were taught by our dealer during our delivery session and spending our first night on their lot learning the best procedures for setting up and shutting down.
