7.5 amp fuse keeps blowing... What does this fuse protect?

Hello all,

I have a 1999 Jayco Eagle (Class C) Model: 241M. All was well then realized I had no 12 power. Everything does works fine on generator power though. I opened battery compartment, Battery shows 12.67 volts. There is a 7.5 amp fuse that was blown, I do NOT know what this fuse is for but its right near the battery and next to two 30 amp fuses as well. I replaced the 7.5 amp fuse and Immedietly it blew. I have had this fuse blow periodically through out the life of my RV but its been fine for a few weeks. Thinking there is a direct short...? What does this Fuse go to/from?? Please help. Thank you for any and ALL insight :-)

7.5 amp isn't much...my guess would be the propane detector?

Do you have any books that came with the MH? You might also get lucky and call Jayco and ask them.

You can test for a short with a volt meter.

No clue. Contact Jayco with your Vin number and ask for the electrical schematic. Another option, just remove it, and try everything, and see what will not work.

On my rig, the fuse powers the entertainment center, keyless entry and leveller jacks control panel. I believe someone mentioned earlier if you could contact Jayco for the electrical schematics for your rig. I emailed Jayco customer service with the VIN number for my rig and they provided the schematics, in PDF format, free. Getting a copy of the schematics would be your best option if you want to troubleshoot problem yourself.

First thing I would check is to make sure your battery is installed correctly. Find the STAMP on the BATTERY case for NEG (-) and make sure this wire goes to the trailer frame ground. This wire should be WHITE colored and the POS (+) wires should be BLACK or colored wires usually with fuse holders etc...

The RV World uses WHITE for Negative Frame Ground and BLACK for HOT Positive battery conection. The Automotive world most of us are all to well aware about uses RED for positive and Black for negative for their battery connections... Sometimes they all get mixed together since a BATTERY is being used... That is why I like to find the WORD NEG or the Symbol (-) on the battery case to tell me which battery post is NEGATIVE....

If the Battery is wired in reverse it instantly blows the close by fuse like you indicated.

I'm surprised that fuse is only a 7 AMP fuse. my 2008 setup used a 30AMP DC Converter/Charger unit so that fuse close to the battery was rated at 30AMP...

The older trailer didn't have many things inside that needed power I guess...
