cargo rack on back of class c

Hi, we are thinking of purchasing a cargo rack that clides into receiver to carry gas grill and tank plus chairs maybe some firewood. Possible a 20" wide by 4 or 5'. We have a 2019 class c 25' want to free up outside storage space. Any recommentation as to a particular rack...

Northern Tool, Harbor Freight, or Tractor supply all have what you are looking for about the same quality at all of them. I bought an aluminum one to save a little weight and avoid rust but it turns out the one I bought and probably all the aluminum ones at this price point have steel structure (the part that slides into the hitch).

I've thought about putting mine on my rig. I would carry spare fuel and water on it most likely. I use it at the deer lease all the time for various things like coolers and harvested animals.

I would use one of these if you're going to use a cargo rack on your MH:

There's enough "slop" in those stingers that they can wobble around pretty bad.

Don’t use it often because of the toad. I got a 2 level receiver so that we could use both but the toad hood is just a little too high when we turn. The 2 level receiver works with the carrier and a bike rack but we prefer taking the toad.

I figure if I ever need it while dinghy towing my Jeep (either one of them), I would just put the stinger back there. My toad has a 2" receiver, so that would be easy enough.

So far, we've only towed the Wrangler (YJ), and I just throw stuff in there. Like pop-up shelter, garden tools, other tools, etc...

We found one online. I think we paid $150, and it's worth every penny.
I wanted one with rails to which I could attach bungie cords. I also wanted want that had a hefty weight capacity. I think it's 500 pounds, which I will never come close to reaching.
I think it is made of steel. Painted black.
On it, I carry two chairs, a small Weber gas grill, a small propane tank, a portable fire pit, a case of water, and two soap jugs that I fill with water and use for hand washing and teeth brushing when we dry camp.
Our 24-foot Melbourne does not have much outside cargo capacity, which means this rack is a great addition.
It slides into the receiver, and I keep a lock on it.

Cherv: The sticker on the rack says: CURT, The First Name in Towing Products.
And it does say it has a 500-pound load capacity.
I Googled 'curt cargo rack' and found what we have: Part number 18153, cost $131.67.

I picked mine up at Harbor Freight. Can't remember how much I paid, but I guarantee it wasn't much. Between me being a cheapskate and Harbor Freight coupons, I usually don't spend much... It's a good piece of kit too, especially for HF.

Good to add the white and red reflective tape on it when you pick it up. Never hurts to be a little cautious.

Been using this for about a year and can't live without it now. I did have to cut the corners of the rail to make the deck box fit, and yes, i did bolt it down. It looks a little crooked in the pic but it isn't and the hitch tightener makes it rock steady.

Altogether I'm using invert half of the 500 lbs of available tongue weight.Click image for larger version

Harbor Freight has the one I have on sale right now for $39.99 with coupon (could've been just over the weekend though). Even at the "regular" price of $59.99, it's a good deal IMO. Looks like Wal-Mart has something for less than $50 too.

At that price, if you think you might need it someday, may as well pick one up...

I would be cautious about having a BBQ propane tank (20lb) on a cargo carrier on your receiver, if someone runs into the back of you it could be a serious issue, other than that I have one and carry a 65lb inflatable boat and accessories without problems.

I have one I bought [at Harbor Freight I THINK] . We carry bikes on it. Had purchased previously a receiver hitch bike rack, so w cargo tray I just installed bike rack bracket onto tray w bolts into receiver stem. Bikes slide onto hanger bracket and wheels rest on tray, and I bungee bike body to hangar. Works well.
Only backed up into tree once when parking. Dragged once on steep site, so I will never get bolts out if I wanted to. (Apart from cutting torch or one heck of a hacksaw.)

We use a HitchHaul and it works great for us. They fit in the receiver and have plenty of ways to tie down the stuff you’re hauling. Ours in the aluminum, which is lighter and easier to install and remove (and move around while you’re storing it). It seems too light but we have used one for some 20 years and had little or no trouble.
