Diesel Pump Handle Colors

Is it just me or do the Southern states use Green for "Gas" pump handles and other colors for Diesel? In VA, Green always means "Diesel". I can't tell you how many times I've almost put "Gas" in my Tanks when in states south of Va.

Or maybe it's VA that's backwards and the Rest of the US has it right? any comments?

I don't think that I have ever been anywhere that is completely universal. Just in my local area, one station has a green handle and the other 3 have black handles. In fact, one station that I use regularly has a black handle on a red diesel pump.

Here in Texas it is a green handle for diesel and black for gas. I have come across an area out west where the diesel handle was yellow.

No standard for pump colors even in Virginia. Diesel Pumps on the. truck side of the stations are almost always black.

Not sure if it still is but I believe Amoco or BP stations had all of their gas pumps with green nozzle handles nationwide. It was a trademark of theirs.

I believe that it is BP that had the green handles on everything.

SC has some with green and others with Orange? I have pumped regular in my diesel once and it was a long day. I realized it before I cranked it up. I called GSRS and they sent a break back to load and haul it to my dealer. They cleaned the tank and told me to fill it up and drive it like I owned it and keep it full of fuel for a hundred miles or so.
I did and never have had a problem related to it. It's had 50k miles on it since then.

I always double check the name on the pump, not the color handle.

Around here, I noticed most gas stations are black for gas, green for diesel. HOWEVER, we have a BP station just north of me, all their pumps are green handled, gas only option. I suspect they are green due to the company colors.

Green diesel, yellow off road, black gas and blue DEF at least where I’ve traveled.
