Same issue on my Alante, I broke the rod bracket end off in a sudden gust that ripped the door out of my hand.(and the door slammed against the awning arm) I replaced it and then added limiting straps at both the top and bottom of the door to prevent it happening again.

Most old timey storm doors used to come with that hardware to keep wind from destroying the door.

Hey Jim,
Great idea! We found when to gas shock opens the door, even without any wind, and the awning is out, the window in the door slaps the awning arm! The strut stops the bottom but the top bends toward the awning arm and slaps it pretty hard. I think this may be the solution. Ordered today.
Thanks
Marc

Any thoughts on how to repair this. Wind gust snapped ball end for hydraulic strut. I will be using the aforementioned lanyards top and bottom, but need to repair the hole in the entry way.

My shock ripped out of the bottom of the door. I ended up riveting a threaded insert into the bottom. Worked like a champ.

After several trips in windy conditions I was concerned the door of my 29 MVP was going to blow off. I came up with a fix by drilling through the interior trim and screen frame - using the interior aluminum door trim as backing to hold a 1/4" bolt attaching to a flange on the door towards the top. It works great. The door is 100% secure in any conditions.

Entry door wind gust strap

This is one of the first things we did on our new RV 4 years ago, after reading about wind damaging the OEM strut and/or mount. Same concept as the cable install above. We used a dog leash installed to become taught about an inch before the hydraulic strut reaches full extend. It is about 1/3 of the way across the top from the hinge point. Does not interfere with having the door open and screen closed.
