LP/CO detector???

Good evening all... Maybe I don't understand how this detector works so I need some help. My LP/CO detector only seems to work when the ignition is on. This is a 2012 Melbourne 29d which is currently plugged in.. All other 12 volt items seem to work when the ignition is off...except the detector!!!!
Thanks for any advice...

This detector is supposed to be on all the time regardless if the ignition is on or off and also if the master power switch in the coach is on or off. Apparently it is mis-wired. On mine there is a ground wire and two wires going to the positive side.

While you are looking at it as to wiring look for it's expiration date. Usually 10 years from manufacture. Many have timers and will tell you they are dead. which can be annoying when you have to go out and buy one at the last minute.

It's possible your detector might be expired but I wouldn't think they would quit working on the exact day of expiration. I will add that mine would go off in the middle of the night and unexpectedly at other times. Jayco advised they had received a bad batch and replaced mine with a new one.

The new detector was installed and has only went off one time. Our dog was near the door waiting to go out and farted. Yes, funny but true. Did it's job by detecting the gas. )

How do you know it is not working? It is not supposed to be wired to the ignition switch. It is supposed to stay on ALL THE TIME. Even with the battery disconnect switch off. It is wired to the house battery not the chassis.

Thanks for the responses. I just put a new detector in yesterday. No green light and nothing when I push the test button. When I turn the ignition on it works fine!!! I tried to trace the wires but they quickly disappeared.. Got to be Think I may have to find a constant 12 volt wire....

Hi, it should have come wired the proper way from the factory. You might want to email Jayco customer support for help. I've found them to be very helpful.

Hi Kick-- I have a 2015 29D (love it) I bought it new, so wiring is factory. My lp/co works with ignition on- or with batteries on. With key off, and batteries off, the lp/co is off. I suspect if yours works ignition key on, the unit is ok, and you have a feed issue when on batteries. I have had luck with my dealer printing off wiring schematics for me.
