Main Power Switch

I'm new to this idea of a main power switch, I did not have one in any of the other campers (Class A, Fifth Wheel, TT) and I imagine its main function is just to turn off the power to the 12 volt system. Is this correct? Should I leave it on if the lights/etc., ore turned off during the week while parked or should it always be off unless I'm using the camper? How about while driving?

If you are connected to shore power when in storage there really is no need to turn if off. We always had our rigs at home and connected so I only turned if off if it went to the dealer and sat in the lot for a couple days for service. Definitely leave it on when driving from location to location.

You must leave it on during driving so that the slide is locked in the closed position. Also it needs to be on to run the fridge on propane. When not using it for more than a week, disconnect both house and chassis battery grounds so they do not drain. The engine has to be off for 1/2 hour before discounting the chassis battery or you will mess up the computers. There is a negative disconnect under the dash on the drivers side for the chassis battery.

If you are referring to the red light switch thing; it cuts power from both battery and shore power to the 12V system ( 12V fuses, 12V power center, whatever). Yes, you are correct there.

Its not needed to be ON while the vehicle is unused. If plugged into shore power the battery will still be charged with this SW OFF. Of course if you need 12V components such as lights then it needs to be on.

Driving is another dimension. There are certain components that are supplied 12V power from the cab 12V system, even if this SW is OFF; the refer, propane alarm, etc. Thus you can travel with the SW off, but you wont have full 12V functions.

I personally turn if off when parked unused at home. Turn it on all else.
