The hinge does *not* fit the N8X fridge. If any have the same fridge I do.

Can you tell me what exact model you have and the serial number? I'm in a quandary here as to what I should get to protect the bottom hinge. If the 634166 kit doesn't fit the N821RT, what do I use?

The 'X' in N8X isn't a placeholder for whatever comes after N8. My fridge model is actually N8X. And for my fridge, the hinge does not fit.

OK, that makes sense. On all the Norcold documents they use an "X" as a placeholder for unknown numbers, so I thought that is what you were doing also. I had no idea there was an N8X model, which is confusing when they use the "X" for an actual model designation and also for a placeholder. Thank you for the explanation and setting me straight.

I ordered the reinforcing hinges from Amazon and they arrived within 2 days. When I went to install them, the top hinge snapped right in place, but when I went to install the other reinforcing hinge on the bottom it wouldn't fit. I removed the top hinge and when I match them up, I see that the hinges are identical, which can't be correct. The bottom hinge would have to be a reverse or mirror image of the top hinge. So I went to my Amazon order and requested a replacement which should be here next week, a day after we leave for a short trip. Oh joy.

Well, thanks to someone either at Amazon or the USPS, the second set of reinforcing hinges arrived today, 20 hours prior to our departure, instead of tomorrow as originally scheduled by Amazon. And they were a correct pair and they fit perfectly! It took less than 5 minutes to take off the door, snap on the two reinforcement hinges and the new washers and put the door back on. We are still going to go light on the door storage shelves, but I feel better that we heard about this and caught it before the cheap plastic bottom hinge broke on a future trip. Thanks to all of you for posting about this inherent problem.

We replaced the wooden inserts with the thin black lexan panels, the inserts look nice but they're heavy, the refrigerator door is carrying 10 lb of wood to start with

We had the bottom hinge to break on our NX8 model and ordered the reinforcement hinge part 634166 but it didn't fit.

I called Norcold directly and was told that there was a "new" part # 640435 that is a reinforcement hinge that WILL fit our door model # 638534. It is so new, apparently, that it couldn't be found on a google search. I called TheNorcoldGuy.com and told them about this number and they have updated their site to include it. Anyway, we now have it on order. Once we get it, I'll report back with our findings!

Got rid of the heavy door panels and went with chalk board look. Also did the washer fix to both freezer and fridge door. I just used small zip ties on both. Lift up on door slide zip around screw tighten and let door drop. No doors popping open, fridge stays at 40 now also. Click image for larger version

Same problem

Had the same issue with my 2019 Melbourne. Took the door off and added a couple of tiny washers on the lower hinge shaft. Lifted the door perfectly. Haven't had a problem since, and we load the door up with drinks.
