Something ate my propane hose...
Camping in Boone National Forest last weekend.
Hooked up my 6’ hose between my propane bottle and camp stove like always, cooked dinner, all good.
Next day return after a day of riding motorcycles and immediately smell propane...yes I’d left the bottle on but never a problem before.
Immediately noticed a couple small holes where something had apparently chewed thru the hose where it was lying on the ground.
Replaced hose with friends brand new never used hose, all good.
Next day, same exact thing!!
I’ve camped all over (15 states and Canada) and have never experienced this. No sign of ground critters before or after the problem.
I’m baffled! Any clues??

I have heard of squirrels gnawing on propane hoses.

First thanks for your service!!
Second, was my first guess but literally never saw/heard one in 4 days (doesn’t mean they weren’t hiding and waiting to eat my hose!)
Thanks...

My guess just didn’t see any. Makes me worried about when the rig is parked at the house (I know I have mice nearby).

Racoon or possum too. Many rubber & plastic coverings contain a soy bye product, tasty to critters.

AS Grumpy said, Raccoon or Possum. But do not discount a Porcupine. They love rubber based products (hoses, Fan belts, etc) & do most of their damage in the dark. Check any adjacent trees

Squirrels maybe? I had one bite thru a water hose under pressure once.

Thanks to all for replies. Not that there’s anything I could do about it, just blew my mind. I know the next time to put the hose away at night.

Perhaps someone makes a stainless steel braid covered propane hose you could replace the damaged one with. That stainless should be hard on the forrest rats dental work !

Unfortunately it isn’t just forest critters using propane to get high...recently read about a teenager in the Alaska bush who got seriously burned while huffing propane.

I was just kidding I didn't think you could get high on propane, much less want to. Damn that's just sad.
Sorry off topic.
