Spare Tire

We're preparing our Seneca for a 45 day trip this summer thru the SE. I' m looking for advice and suggestions on carrying a spare tire. Thinking about carrying an unmounted tire and storing it under the bed.

Any input would be appreciated...thanks.

Where's your sense of adventure? Live life on the edge, screw taking a spare. You don't need that extra weight.....

seriously, carry the spare wherever you can put it. even if you just lay it on the floor right in front of the door. It takes 5 seconds to take it out and place it under the step when you walk in. If its needed, its right there easy to get to.

I know for me when I drive down to the lower 48 from AK, I carry two spares each for the TT and TV. I also carry and use a 5500 watt generator (I know they are noisy, but I turn it off by 2100, and only use it when absolutely necessary), an extra 35 gallon barrel of fresh drinking water, 40 gallons of extra fuel, an extra water pump and lots more, including an extra headlight, fan belts and hoses for the TV. I have called over prepared and accused of packing to much stuff for long trips. Then again, I have been stuck once, 50 miles from a paved road and no help insight. More than once, I have helped someone else get their rigs out of tight spots or just to a repair center.

You can't go wrong having a little extra. If you never have to use it, it's still there next time.

I'm comfortable changing any of the tires on our Greyhawk so we have a mounted spare and all the tools needed to do the job but if and when I'm not comfortable doing that anymore I'll still either carry a mounted spare or at the very least an unmounted spare to speed up the process (and keep the cost down) for the tire guys.
