Suspension Upgrades on My Melbourne?

First…I did a search of the forums and found several threads on suspension upgrades but 99% of the comments/questions were from Redhawk or Jayhawks owners. Not much help to me as a Mercedes owner.

So who on here has done any suspension upgrades?

What I have filtered out of responses is that if I want to improve my ride, handling, and overall safety the I need to upgrade the sway bar, shocks, and springs.

So here’s what I’m looking at:

SUMO Springs 500# front and 1400# rear
Bilstein 24-167161 46 mm shocks
Helwig #7777 sway bar

Has anyone found the need for a steering stabilizer on their Melbourne?
I looked and looked but can’t find a single comment on that one.

We recently completed our first trip in the new 2022 Melbourne L.
A 3800 mile, multi-month trip involving 8 western states and boy…some of the crosswinds were nothing short of brutal!
More surprising was the amount of movement from the winds even when parked using the Bigfoot stabilizer system. One location was so bad we packed up and left!!
As a side note…I’m contemplating adding corner stabilizers to the rear corners for when we’re parked in those windy locations. Any thoughts on that idea?

Suspension upgrades have been discussed by several members but maybe imbedded in other threads. I think you will be happy with the upgrades you mentioned. I went with your list except I went with Fox offroad shocks tuned into the weight of my. The Bilsteins get good reviews on the Sprinter forum and maybe here as well. As far as stabilizing the rear corners, where would you mount them? I went with a homemade solution used on the tow receiver. It helps but is not perfect.
pictures of my homemade solution in post 98 in the following thread.

I installed the Helwig sway bar.
It made an incrementally better difference. Wife does not notice it. I do.
Next will be Bilstein shocks. With them, I hope to reduce side-to-side rocking on rough roads.
The shop I use for alignment tells me that after installing new shocks, the front end must re realigned.
I might use this shop to install the shocks and then align it...

There is no need at all to realign after shocks. The only reason(s) to have an alignment done is if you changed ride height (which you aren't with shocks), see abnormal tire wear, or you ran into something and the steering wheel is off.

That shop is trying to screw you.

I did Sumo's front and rear along with the Helwig swaybar. My Melbourne 24l drives better than my daily drive. very little sway even when the big rigs blow by. Did it 20,000 miles ago and still happy with it.
