I have the Ryobi 18Volt One+ system because my camper tires are 80 psi. These are easy to fill with the Ryobi system. I share the battery with other Ryobi things... such as hand held spot light, impact wrench and drill. I love 'em.

Pick one up at Home Depot and try it out. Don't like, easy to return.

I have the Ryobi and love it. I love how portable it is. I don't need to run a cable to my vehicle battery. I let ALL the air out of one tire just to see if the battery would last. It took a little while but it brought it up to 60psi on the smaller standard 1.5ah battery. I do carry and extra battery and a charger with me. We also use it for the bikes we take with us. I have also talked to someone that uses it to blow up there inflatable kayak. I also use it to blow out the water lines for winterizing.

So by my count it looks like:
Viair — 10 votes
Ryobi — 2
Husky — 1
Harbor Freight — 1
Anything not made in China — 1

Don't mess around with a crappy compressor, when you need one it won't be price sensitive.

I bought a 120v compressor from Home Depot for about $24 while on a trip. It works fine.

You do know that sounds very elitist and describes "most of us here" being able to spring for a $400 mini-compressor as no big deal! Well here is a news flash, not ALL of us here have the money that you and the "most of us" obviously have, and considering we may not be off-roading or driving a big ol' class A, that does seem pretty darn expensive. I agree it would be nice to have that little rig but I am still swallowing the expense for extended valve stems, TPMS, Sumo shocks, beefed-up torsion bar, leveling system, et al, so I guess some of us might not jump at the $400 option. Might be nice to see if others have had good luck with some less expensive compressors. YMMV

12 volt HF

I have 1 of the 12 volt HF kits for about 4 years. Most of my tire's I use on are 80psi to fill. With 3 different trailers and 1 ton truck and tractor it has been used quit often with no issues. I also use to winterize the 5th wheel a couple times a year.

What kind of Air compresor do you use?

I carry one of the Ryobi 18 volt compressors with me. I've used it many times to air up a tire and assist other campers. They are very reasonably priced and I have many other tools that use the same batteries so it was a "no brainer" for me. They ceretainly won't keep up with the $400 units but I guess it all depends on what you plan to use it for. They have a built in gauge and you use it right at the tire so there is no need for long hoses or cords. It works well for me.

I carry this. It is good for occasional usage.

As long as you observe the 5 minute duty cycle, it will do a good job for airing up a tire. On my class C, I ran a tire down to 50 psi then aired it up to 80 psi. Handled the job well. I wouldn't want to air up a completely flat tire, but for top ups it does a good job.

Maybe you missed the one post saying the Viair comes in all price ranges.

Mainly need it for the air bags and couldn’t justify the cost of the all in one systems for something used so infrequently. Have an inverter in the truck so 12v is not necessary. I tend to agree with Yooper906 statement. Prefer to buy American but as an example JD wanted about $75 each for the hd wear skids for my garden tractor blade (probably not USA made). Found a set that were a better design, made in china of course, of very good quality for $21 for the pair delivered, from a local vendor. Sorry JD. Viair are costly but have the reputation, but so does JD.
I carry that one with me and have had to use it only twice, works great!

Again really happy with my simple 40 psi tow vehicle and 65 psi trailer tires. The Jaco pump I have is good enough for now, but I'll definitely be looking at a Viair next. This forum is such an excellent source of products, reviews, repairs, and info...
Thanks all!

I would recommend for those without any compressor to consider one like this. This is one of the highest CFM compressors out there for it's size and can run an impact wrench, air winterize your RV, and fill your tires much faster than any 12v compressor I have used. However, I will add that I have a Viair as well which runs on 12v unlike this one and I carry it on most shorter trips (in fact it stays in the RV). Being I have a Class C, I have a generator to power this larger compressor so not a big concern, however it does add another 20~25 lbs to add to my cargo weight.

One other thought, I also carry some tire plugs (tire plug kit) just in case. ~CA

I use the Ryobi and also have 2 fans and a blower to blow the side toppers off. Very convenient having the 18 plus system

Depends on how “portable” you want. I went with this one and mounted it in my vehicle. Have had it for 3 years now and could not be happier. Have filled everything from beach balls to 100psi trailer tires. Could not be happier.

Viair.
Buy the model that has the power to inflate your rigs tires.

There is no substitute for quality when you have an emergency!
