Winterizing a Tankless Hot Water Heater

Hello all. I have a 2015 Jayco Greyhawk 31FS with a tankless water heater. I have winterized everything with the help of my mechanic who is also a friend. The only thing he could not tell me was if I need to do anything to my tankless water heater bc he does not not have any experience with them. Does anyone have any suggestions or links to DIY videos. Thanks for any suggestions.

One of many threads that you will find using the search feature in the gold bar at the top of the page. I put in "winterize tankless heater".

What Brand

What is the make and model of your "tankless" Water heater? If its a Truma is very simple to winterize.

You've probably got a Girard Gen I. Nothing special to do - turn it off, drain, fill with RV antifreeze.

We bought our 2016 Greyhawk 29mv used. The previous owner (my father-in-law) had winterized it according to the Greyhawk manual his first year of ownership. When he put it back into service, the water heater leaked. While freezing pipes are not covered under warranty, my FIL showed the dealer the winterizing instructions from Jayco and the dealer managed to have Jayco pay for the entire replacement cost.

So this year, our first winter, I called Girard and was advised to first drain the plumbing with air pressure and then put in the antifreeze, so that's what I've done. I'm just presuming that some residual water can be left in the heat exchange tubing and that if it gets cold "enough" then the pipes can rupture, so when people say they "never had a problem" with just using antifreeze it may be because their freezing temps were never low enough to cause a problem. (Ice has an unusual property of continuing to expand as temperature further decreases below freezing.)

Tell us the make and model of your water heater.
Again, it's probably a Girard. And either a GSWH-2 or a GSWH-1M.

If so - again, nothing to do.
Winterize your coach as normal.

If you need help winterizing your entire coach, then this may help.
This is a document I put together for my wife for our 2016 Greyhawk.
It might help you.
