5th Wheel hook up assistance
Does anyone out there use any type of mirror or alignment device to assist in hooking up your 5th wheel? Its hard to see the hitch in the bed, so I was wondering what you all do when you are hitching up your 5ers alone

That's one of the things I really like about the Andersen Ultimate Fifth Wheel Connection. I can see everything, and hit it right on the money the first time, every time.

I use a magnetic camera that sets on bed cover and the receiver plugs into my cigarette lighter port. It lets me watch the hitch connect in real time. Works very, very well.

I simply use the center of the backrest for the back seat between the headrest looking in the rear view mirror. Gotta' look again but, I think there is a loop for something on the back seat that is in the center to line up with the pin box. Usually hit it pretty close as long as I am coming up to it almost straight back. Aften, I stop, get out and, look before I continue on back. Sometimes, I adjust the pin height a little.

I spent about $4 on a ballpoint pen sized telescoping magnet. I stick it on the front edge of the hitch and center it on the second E in REESE on the pin box.

I can see mine from the cab. I painted a Yellow line on the hitch and receiver. I can line them up easily each time.

My hitch has a white sticker with a black arrow on the top of it. I just line it up to the hitch pin and never miss. I use my rear view mirror to see the sticker.

I put a red arrow made of 2 inch tape down the center of the 5th wheel pin box. I also put a small piece of red tape on the rear truck window that lines up with the pin box when I am seated looking through my mirror. Simple, less than a dollar in materials and works every time.

Similar to Cosmic's solution I bought a pair of magnetic telescoping hitch aids for my first TT bumper-pull from Harbor Freight. They were terrible. I discovered putting one on the hitch plate is a perfect allignment tool. Watching with the rear view and aligning the rod with the center of the pin I hit it every time. When the rod begins to tip over I know I'm about to close the jaws.

I used to be able to just twist and watch the coupling but I added a toolbox behind the cab and ca't see the hitch any longer. Just that little orange rubber handle of the telescoping magnet gadget and the wife adjusting up/down on landing gear and its easy. I learned to put it in park if she gets a phone call though. Too much distraction for her.

When I back up my pick up, I line the drivers side end of truck bed with the lite next to the pin box on same side. Will get you pretty close.

I'm spoiled. My TV came with a second backup camera in the third brake light on top of the cab. It points right down in the bed.

I have a 2015 Ram 3500 crew cab, SRW, with the bighorn package. Just push a button on the u connect radio and it switches cameras. I start the truck by an app on my smart phone.

Maybe I'd better look closer at my 2014 Denali. Might have something like that and don't even know it.

I have been seeing commercials for Ford's sissy solution. Wonder how it will go over?
