Auto close vent in Northpoint

We have a Northpoint 381FLWS that has an automatic vent fan in the kitchen that is SUPPOSED to close when it rains. My question is this: if the vent is open but the fan is OFF, should the vent close or does the fan need to be ON in order for the automatic feature to work? Came back today to a small puddle under the open vent. Thx

It has to be on. At least that is how our Fantastic Fan use to work.

this what my Maxxair manuals says...

"RAIN SENSOR - Automatic Models only. If the Rain Sensor circuit detects moisture, it will TURN OFF the fan and close the lid. If ANY key is pressed when the Rain Sensor is still wet, the fan will BEEP THREE (3) TIMES. Press the FAN ON key to restart the fan after the Rain Sensor has dried.

CAUTION: If the lid is opened MANUALLY, the RAIN SENSOR will not close the MAXXFAN lid."

You could do a test with some water.....let us know.
