Brakes Blown Seals

All four seals were blown on our 2016 321 RSTS Eagle.According to Lippert seals were replaced and brakes were decreased.Driving south on I17 out of Flagstaff a 5% - 6% grade, controller set on 5. Virtually no stopping power. Some seem to suggest the brakes should have been replaced! This was warranty. Any ideas?

If brakes are soaked with brake fluid or coated with grease I have always had then replaced. Every mechanic I know would recommend that. Maybe you could cook it out but it would be problematic and an invitation to do the job twice, have an accident or both.

X2, would have insisted the brake shoes be replaced.

I have several thoughts/ideas, but just a couple of (hopefully) helpful ones:

Is this a brand new trailer?

Why is your controller set at 5? Is that high enough?

What happens when you manually apply the trailer brakes?

Brake shoes may also need adjusting up.

Our camper is a 2016 Eagle 321 RSTS.When I manually apply brakes camper will not stop at 10 mph.According to Jayco that would set my brakes,I do not know.Normally we would not set the controller above 3.Basically I don't believe the brakes are working at 25% maybe!Cleaning pads not the best choice, no doubt the cheap way for Jayco warranty!

3 and 5 settings on the brake controller for that size trailer is too low. You need to read your brake controller manual on how to adjust it properly. Once you do that, than you can start troubling shooting. If I had my gain set to 5 or less I'd never stop. Might be ok for an empty car trailer. Lol Seriously, read, understand and follow the brake controller manual. Be sure you understand how the controller works.

Do you have an aftermarket brake controller or a built in oem controller?
If you have a time based controller, throw it away! Use only a proportional controller.

If the shoes were greased then they should have been replaced. Maybe there was only a slight amount of grease.

When I hook up I do a pin test by pulling against the brakes on full manual and I can't pull the trailer with revs just off idle. On a couple of occasions my breakway has got caught and pulled and at parking lot speeds it'll stop me instantly.

I run my control ~7.5-8.5

Have you even tried a higher than 5 brake controller setting? Have you tried to set the controller as per the manual? Normally warm brakes, 20mph using the manual lever on full. Adjust gain until the wheels brake the most without lockup is typical setup.

If that doesn't fix the weak brakes, than troubleshoot. Check magnet ohms, check voltage to magnets. Check brake adjustment. Or take it back to the dealer if you don't care to troubleshoot.

As bap said, the brake shoes may need adjusting. It certainly would be worth doing that to rule out that as the problem and it may even turn out it WAS the problem!

Crank that controller up to 10, Drive at 25 mph then apply the brakes manually, If they don't lock up then you have either a controller issue or brake issue.
Which controller are you using?

Up date Lippert agreed all brakes to be replaced. Hang up is Lippert allows RV shop 2 hours to replace. Dealer wants more money, that's always the hang up! Now they don't want the job.

Go to a different dealer or have lippert send you the parts and install them yourself.
