Depends on the wattage, start about $80 up to $250 range, look on Amazon

Thanks very much. My Canuck dollar ( fittingly called a Loonie) is at .78 US today) so it's always more expensive for us.

Does anybody know if the converter in a 2001 has a fuse? My brother in law thinks it could be just a fuse in the converter. My trailer is 2 hours away so we can' t just pop in, at least not today.

Most all have fuses, one for output, one for reverse polarity. I would sure start there

If you do need to replace, strongly recommend you source it from the US and use a postal forwarding service instead of purchasing in Canada, or better yet, if you travel to the US pick it up there.

We get almost all our RV parts in the US as most Canadian retailers including Amazon seem to tack on up to 50% more after the exchange rate. It's really nuts how much more RV parts and accessories are up here.

This is a little easier for those who are closer to the border; Sydney would be a bit far. I have a US mail drop about an hour away and just have to camp for the weekend to bring the parts back duty free (yes, we declare everything). But the company I use has a "Push It North" service with very reasonable brokerage that will still save some $$.

And BTW - see that's your first post - Welcome to JOF!

JoanO,

I would also give Jayco customer service a call (have your VIN handy) and ask them to confirm the brand & model converter/charger your FW came with.

Knowing the brand/model will allow you to gather some technical info on the unit before you head out to your FW.

Also check all the converter/charger wire connections, they are known to loosen-up over time.

Bob

Thanks to all of you. I had a tech there today and at first he thought the battery was dead. I assured him it wasn't but he was convinced, until he wasn't. He phoned back to say it was the converter and that it has no fuses due to the age, so i'd have to buy a new one. ( I thought fuses were even more popular in 2001), so, I'm going to do what Rustic Eagle suggests & gather information.

I'm going to visit an aunt in Upstate NY soon, so possibly I can have it sent there, bankr63.
I know about the extra fees, having purchased a new water heater this year, the add ons were outrageous.

First of all: state the make and model of the converter. Converters their output is always fused. Remove the converter and tested it for out put. Some older models even have fuses inside.

I don't know if the ads are individualized in these forums, but Cabot Links Golf Course is a stone's throw from where this trailer is located.

Thanks for the intel on the fuses.
